Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

If we get Penn, Id be all for a WR in the second round, or the best guard available. It seems we are slowly piecing together a defense with FA's and castoffs, so that Gruden can have HIS type of guys on O. Its definitely one way to do things, but a patchwork secondary scares the crap out of me.

We can't overhaul the team in one off season.

I wouldn't be horribly opposed to this, esp since we have few good options. Why not have someone back there vs nothing at all. Merriweather showed promise long ago as a ProBowl stong safety, and we've been using him more often as free safety. He was only one year out of two injuries last year. If we got a real free safety (even an aging Ryan Clark), have more pass rush with Hatcher and continue to groom the young players like PThomas (if healthy).. I think there's a chance BMerriweather could do okay.

Yes, it's Plan C -- but Plan A (Byrd), Plan B (Mitchell, others) are no longer options. Plan D is Draft.

I have no desire to see 35 year old Ryan Clark come back. We're going to have to see if some of these young guys can grow up.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

Defensively we look like this
D-Line-----Hatcher/Cofield/Bowen/JJenkins
OLB---Rak/Kerrigan/BJenkins/Jackson (maybe)
ILB----Riley/Robinson/Heyward/Sharpton/BJenkins
CB----Hall/Amerson/Porter/Crawford/
Safety-----Phillip Thomas/Rambo/Merriweather {Clemmons,Wright,Clark}
LB corp looks nice IMO but glaring needs are at safety and cb obviously

Offensively
needs in draft
O-Line
TE
WR

We still have Minnifield at CB right? Am I the only one still holding out hope for him?

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread

jackson is probably gone unless no one else wants him.

minnifield's injury (his knees are shot) is career threatening, so if he doesn't play this year, that's probably it for him and the NFL. I'd love to see him play well, but i wouldn't bet money on it.

Jackson is visiting with the Raiders.
