I think the whole situation with TO is blown out of proportion by the media. TO wants to be payed like a top 10 reciever, because he is a top ten reciever. It' s not just a cowencidence (can't spell) that the eagles have almost the most cap room in the NFL, they are known for being stengy with their money. They probraly told the guy to sign the first deal and the next year they would adjust it and when next year came they didn't do it.

For (hopefully) the last time - Owens is paid like a top ten receiver. Like nearly every contract in the NFL, the monies are not paid evenly, but in large lumps that include bonusesin some years and not others. Owens was paid over $10 million last year. In this, the second year of the seven year contract he signed, he is scheduled to be paid $3.5 million. The "underpaid" claim is based on the $3.5 million number, but doesn't take into account the fact that Owens will have been paid $14 million over two years, and $21.5 million through next year.

It is a testament to the salesmanship of Drew Rosenhaus that Owens isn't universally panned for claiming he is vastly underpaid. At the time he negotiated and signed his deal, Owens was the third highest paid receiver in the league. Since new deals have been signed, he averages 5th highest over three years.
