What a weak article, it is an insider article so here is the concluding paragraphs as to why they won't miss Jackson:

Bottom line:

The Eagles' brain trust is quite savvy. It would not have let the team's most prolific receiver go without having some sort of replacement plan in order, and in this case the Eagles have four elements in place to offset the loss.

Barring a string of injuries, this all but guarantees Philadelphia's offense will not miss DeSean Jackson in 2014.

They gave 4points:
1)Maclin.
2)heavier emphasis on run (even though they noted the eagles were already 4th in running plays)
3)Sproles- I wanted Sproles but the have McCoy Sproles keeps the defenders IN the box Jackson forced them out.
4) incorporating their tight ends. again that's the short game.

My bottomline is that without Jackson defenses will play to keep everything upfront and not really fear the deep threat and this isn't the same braintrust that worked with Andy Reid.

I will admit it if the season turns out differently but I expect Philly's offense to take a sharp decline.

^I literally laughed out loud when I seen the title, "Eagles won't miss DeSean Jackson." But I don't have ESPN Insider, so I didn't know what the article brought out until now. Thanks for posting.

To say that the Eagles won't miss Jackson is ridiculous. Their FA and draft additions as well as the returning Maclin might... might... replace Jackson's total production, but the explosiveness and big play ability that he offered won't be matched. The Eagles's offense in terms of total yards and points was good last season, but what made it so special was the explosiveness; it won't be the same this season.

Replacing DeSean Jackson's explosive plays will be nearly impossible for the 2014 Eagles

Yeah, that's absurd. Just having a WR who can take the top of the defense a la Jackson makes every other weapon on an offense more potent. Jeremy Maclin is a good receiver but I think he's going to get exposed a little this year with Jackson not lining up on the opposite side.

One of the main reasons I was/am a big fan of the DJ acquisition is that the cost simply is manageable. If he's an ass-hat we can cut bait with him pretty easy. If we get one great year or two good years I would be happy. I fully expect him to pull his patented "I want more money even though you just gave me more money last year" moves. So what? We punt and move on. NO harm no foul. We didn't waste a draft pick that we feel we have to get a certain amount of production for. We're not tied to him long-term. We signed him off the street.

So is McCoy when they stack the box.

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson

heard coach gruden say after friday's practice all good things about desean, showing up for voluntaries etc all normal fluff you expect to hear from a coach but then he did say if he had one negative it would be that desean sometimes looks like he is too cool for school out there.

it struck me as odd bc it seemed gruden didnt have to say it. he voluntarily added it in at the end.

"too cool for school" struck me as being a very apt phrase to describe desean jackson.

(understanding that i have zero experience as a teammate or coach of jackson and only hear and read what everyone else hears and reads).

i dont have a prob with "too cool for school". if he goes half speed on a route he knows he is not going to be targeted on in practice, i dont have a prob with that. it might not send the most positive message to younger receivers watching him, it might rub some other players who go 100% in practice no matter what a little bit the wrong way but i dont know .. im not there.

"too cool for school" sounds like a good description for what we heard out of philly and i could certainly see how a control/demand respect freak like chip kelly would be bothered by it. in college you can yell and micro-manage your student athletes a lot more than your stud diva receiver who drives sports cars and lives in mansions. the giants had a near revolt with coughlin, but then everyone got in line and they won a few SBs.

i also dont have a prob w the coach sliding in the comment. that may be his way of letting jackson know that he has noticed.

it may be nothing but a back end comment slipped in there. i dont know. but i do find the human dynamic interesting.

the redskins video vault is a little screwy today or i would have gone back and listened since i only heard it once in the car.

The way I interpreted it was he makes things look effortless, I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the better clarification.
