As we know Griffin has been out of practice all week while he underwent a top secret knee surgery.

Re: Gameday Thread: Browns vs. Redskins

I like Jay Gruden but here is his stupidest-sounding quote so far. It's about RGIII not protecting himself when he runs. Gruden: "It is an issue if he gets injured. It’s not an issue if he doesn’t.”

Let's look at Gruden's statement the way I twist it in my mind where I equate not going out of bounds or sliding soon enough to poison: "If RGIII takes poison and dies, then it's an issue. It's not an issue if he takes poison but doesn't die."

Smart. Real smart.

After reading what Gruden said, I'm as concerned as ever that RGIII may once again be seriously injured. It would be tragic to see a potentially great career curtailed or ended early because a harmful habit wasn't corrected.

I hope Cousins is ready because I'm afraid he'll be starting some games this season.

Let's look at this another way: If RGIII takes poison and dies, then it's an issue. It's not an issue if he takes poison but doesn't die. Smart. Real smart.
I thought the same thing and pray that Gruden is more on top of the issue than he sounded.

I'm sure Gruden is all over it. Sounds to me that it is more like he is getting tired of answering the same damn question.

But his quote is dead on. Griffin has to understand that he has to protect himself. That means lengthening his understanding of when he has to get out of bounds, or slide.

Compare it to driving a car, if you are going at 20 miles an hour you know you can be closer to the next car than if your are going to 70 miles an hour. It's the same thing with Griffin, he starts thinking protect to late, because he overestimates his reaction times and underestimates the opponents. If you look at the run to the sideline, you see Griffin was trying to get out, he put his head down and was thinking he could go out of bounds thru the defender, instead he bounced off him and into two others, and really could have done a job on his knee. He needs to see the defender and step out in front of him. And that's all about Griffin protecting himself.

Racecar drivers drive at 100mph plus safely, because they know how to protect themselves. We've seen qb's run (wilson, kaepernick, and others) and know to protect themselves. If Griffin is going to run, which I don't think anyone is saying he shouldn't run ever, he simply has to know what the right protection zone should be.

I admit that I may be overly concerned about it. I'm hoping we'll see RGIII make more progress toward fixing the problem on a game-by-game basis.

Re: Gameday Thread: Browns vs. Redskins

I think Gruden has made it well known that Griffin needs to protect himself better. Griffin knows it too. What else needs to be said? Griffin needs to make it happen.

My son is super active like never sits down always wants to be doing stuff. We had him checked out he is fine just likes to move around.

I am always disciplining/yelling at him to stop running; especially indoors.

My dad said one day you are pissing into the wind with the yelling; asking him to stop running is like asking him to stop breathing. IT is some how in grained into him.

I think the same maybe true for RGIII.

I think you just let him do what he does and if that means shorten his career then that is what it is. I rather 5 years of an awesome RGIII then 8 years of handcuffing him.

Eventually father time will take the speed from him and it will be up to RGIII to be able to be a "pocket passer" in order to stay in the league.

Gruden and Griff are baffled by the two false start calls the other night.

My problem with the call is the inconsistency across the league with call. Watch Brady and Big Ben do the same damn thing with their shotgun calls and snaps. They constantly move...just complete bs imo.

or peyton when he barks out an audible or hard count, then jerks his body forward and moves up to either side of the center to make sure they hear his audible ... like everyone else i imagine those false starts by RG3 dont get called in the reg seasons but during preseason the nfl wants to over flag it to make it a point of emphasis.

Do you think RG3's cleat doesnt get caught during that 1st slide if he was playing on different/better turf? i do

But if there were big men chasing your son looking to rip his head off every time he ran around he would probably get the point.
Griffs future and millions of dollars are on the line every time he is careless like that. I mean the guy is finally healthy, and in a meaningless preseason game (when the starting qb job is not even remotely an issue), he is reckless beyond belief over a couple of yards? Total head scratcher at this point.
Edit: as a Dad im glad he is just active n there are no issues.
