Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB

Q: How bad do we fans think the right side of our OL is?

A: It's so bad that we're actually talking about signing Richie Incognito.

The right side of our line is bad. However, RG3 can help things out if he gets the ball out on time. If he doesn't then he's going to get sacked...a lot.

The right side of our line right now is not giving RG3 any time to throw.

That's being overplayed. Robert is playing worse than the OL is. (or so in pre-season)

It's not being overplayed because no one is talking about it in the media. I'm not absolving RG3 of his wrong doings, but the OL is not helping this team at all. Hell, we couldn't even get a running game going against the Ravens, and that's something we managed to do last year.

I wasn't referring to the media. Of course they want to tear down RGIII, but my reference was more about the fans. I wouldn't judge them on the running game against Baltimore because the Ravens still has a decent front 7. That said, our right side OL does need to be upgraded, and I still think we overpaid Loauva (however you spell it) way too much for what he brings.

And on the last play, he had all day to throw and still missed Reed wide open right in front of his face. Running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage, still can't slide and jumping in the air on throws have nothing to do with the O-line.

Oh here we go. In the Ravens game, Flacco was under constant duress and had to throw some balls with Redskin defenders hanging on him. He still got the ball off and managed 160 plus passing yards in the first half. There aren't many elite O lines in the league and QBs in general are under immediate pressure when they drop back to pass. The good ones know where they're going with the ball pre-snap and let it rip.

Remember how bad the O-line looked with Jason Campbell behind it and how great it looked with Todd Colllins behind it? Same O-line, totally different results.

Exactly, ball has to come out and sometimes he's going to have to stand in there, take a hit and throw the ball. Or actually climb the pocket which he never does.

So Griffin is Campbell? And Cousins is Collins? Or is Griffin Collins and Cousins Campbell? Or is Colt McCoy Colt Brennan?

I really can't wait to see what we look like in Huston, nothing else really matters stats or points wise in the preseason. RG is our guy and we have to behind him. If we get to the bye week and have 2-3 wins then you can start thinking of making a change. But it all really depends on how he looks.

Let's hope not. Just using that as an example of how it's not always the O-line's fault. Who the QB is and how they play has a lot to do with pass protection. Another example is Kurt Warner. He was so good at punishing the blitz that teams would hardly ever blitz him. A lesser QB behind the same O-line might bet blitzed unmercilessly.

I'm all in on RG3, but not to the point that I'm blind to his glaringly bad flaws.

Me either, he has looked pretty bad so far this preseason. That said its preseason, and I've been around long enough to not get too excited or discouraged about preseason. My hope is that this O has keep it very vanilla and will have a very different look once the season begins.

This season can't start soon enough.
