I think the old RFK site is really the only option - all the other spots have significant drawbacks, and RFK just makes too much damn sense. As much as taxpayer financing upsets me (seriously, it's one of the more fucked things in our society), I'm sure it'll happen again here - especially when you have DC, MD & VA all competing for the new stadium. Of course, a move to DC would necessitate a name change - there's absolutely no getting around that - but I'm sure Snyder knows that and will leverage the name change for more gov't $. He knows it has to change eventually, he's just waiting for the biggest payday.

But all that aside, I feel like I actually might go to more than 1 game/season if it was in DC. It really just fucking sucks to go all the way out to Landover...metro access would be huge.

Or maybe just a logo change. The word Redskin by itself is innocuous. I saw it on a menu just the other day and no one was outside with picket signs. I like the old yellow helmets anyway.

There are finite number of seasonal jobs created and the tax revenue received from these job and the sale of any goods is insufficient to cover the amount of money taxpayers cough up before teams ask for a new stadium.

2. If the baseball team gets a stadium the football team will ask for one and vice verse. When owners ask for a new stadium it essentially amounts to asking for a ransom...Pay us or we will move and find someone else to pay us....I don't know about you but the idea of paying a ransom doesn't appeal to me, especially if I am not getting my money's worth.

3. People don't spend more money to go to games, they shift that money from other things like going out to dinner or the movies. This means the state isn't receiving tax revenue from these other businesses.

4. Studies after studies have shown the only people a new stadiums makes money for are the people building it, playing in it and team owners.

You're right and wrong .


Baseball has nothing to do with Football stadiums ,it didn't in NY/NJ.



AS for # 3 you are 100% dead wrong ,have you been to a parking lot at Fed Ex ,have you seen what these people spend on tailgating ???People who buy season tickets have the money or figure a way ...maybe sell a game or two or go in as a whole family (as we did in NY,7 of us) .You make it sound like people will starve first to see a game and it's just not so .

I'm sorry. Exactly where in that link does it show NJ makes money from the stadium? Have you got a breakdown between the costs of maintenance vs the income they receive?

If you are pointing to the concerts as the revenue, I have to remind you that it's the artists/performer who nets most of that money, not the venue.

I'm almost 100% sure that NJ lost money during the Super Bowl.

AS I pointed out NY/NY didn't I did not say all and as always you are getting things mixed up again ,we were talking about financing the stadiums not infrastructure and up in NY/NJ it was the NY/NJ Metropolitan stadium authority that was responsible for the infrastructure .AS for making money the statement was made that the only people making money on New Stadiums were the" owners,builders and players" and I said that wasn't and still isn't true now I'll admit it might not be in the billions but NY/NJ MSA is making some money off the concerts and other events ,who do you think gets the parking money ?I guess you think that the restaurants bars and hotels made no money during the Superbowl that they additional traffic doesn't pay tolls on the turnpike ???

At what point did I say "all stadiums built" , your link is talking about over all including baseball and soccer . Not Met Life in NJ, show me that article where the taxpayers paid for that stadium and then you would be right ...but you are not, as always .

In our world if you have 500 dollars to spend and you spend it all on tailgating you aren't going to spend it at the local restaurant. In Giantone's world people don't have finite discretionary income and you don't have to make an either/or decisions.

In our world when the billionaire baseball owner threatens to leave town unless the public finance his new stadium the billionaire football owner is likely to ask for the same deal. In Giantone's world baseball and football have nothing to do with each other.

In our world the stadiums mostly generate seasonally low wage jobs and the tax payer never recoups the money they put in to building it. In Giantone's world everyone makes money and that's that.
