RIP Joan Rivers

Back in the day, she was one of the first raunchy women stand-ups and, at one point, was the heir-apparent to Johnny Carson for the Late Show. She fell out of favor for some reason I forget and pretty much disappeared. She then sort of reinvented herself as a caricature of her prior career and been playing off of it for the last 10 years or so.

In her hey day she did have her moments of "Holy Crap! that was damn funny!" She has been pretty much a shadow of that at the end of her career. RIP

Yup , If I remember right Carson got pissed at her for getting her own show and going up against him .

Apparently she got a break as an"alternate" stand bye gig with Johnny Carson show. One of the comics was bombing and she got her shot.

Not my favorite, but she had her moments. And like MK has said, she opened the door for many female comedians who would come after.
