IME, around 75% of the time the hits that look really bad are the ones you get up from the quickest. The one's on the other hand that would make an observer say 'that's it' are the ones that seem to cause the most damage.

Case in point

Most of you probably remember that Brian Moorman, a freaking punter, got right back up from this hit.
