No doubt I was a difficult kid, in fact I'm determined not to have kids because I'm well aware of what I was like growing up, but I had a few episodes during my formative years that certainly were well over the line. Granted nothing even close to sending me to a hospital but lets just say if a Ray Rice like tape was released one of my parents could have been easily been standing in front of a judge.

Certainly got plenty of verbal abuse growing up. True story, I learned the word 'retarded' at 5 years old because my Mother used to ask me, without joking, if I was in fact retarded. Then again the first time I ever pumped gas I sprayed my Mother with the nozzle, because after all if you give a child anything with a pointy end and a trigger....maybe she had a point?

I think it definitely has a negative effect though on a kid growing up. I remember a friend of mine telling me his parents never raised a hand to him and eventually had an a-ha moment when he later told me that he had never been in a fight. When I look at myself on the other hand, though I certainly would never be mistaken for a brawler I probably had slightly more than the average amount of fights for a kid growing up in the rough upper middle-class suburbs. I'd probably need 3 hands to count them all from k-12.

My dad called me a bitch at 6 because I dumped too much water on a flower. Good times.

Even though I know that was a horrible experience for you, I sadly find it somewhat comforting knowing that there's someone out there that understands my pain, lol.
