Griffin wouldn't be the first guy to have injuries early on in his career, only to go on to have a good career. Just saying.

I'm not giving up on him either, I'm just trying to be realistic... There is a decent possibility RGIII will never be the QB we drafted him to be, through no fault of his own... To me it looks like the FO will have a decision to make after this year between Cousins and RGIII... I can't fathom how they can keep them both... But who knows, maybe they can and this thing will ride out another year...

Which great Qb had two season ending injuries in his first 2 & 2/16th seasons? Just curious who that might be. I am not trying being a smart ass.

Brees had major shoulder issues early in his career. I believe the perceived injury risk was the reason why Miami chose Culpepper back when Brees was a FA.

Good example.

Phil Simms had significant injury issues his first 4-5 years in the league.

I don't think anybody is saying it can't be done, it just doesn't happen very often... I'm not ready to pull the plug on III by anymeans... All I'm saying, and I think most of the board is, that if Cousins plays well this season and wins some games, I don't see how we can trade him/let him walk and put all our eggs in the RGIII basket... To me, that would be ignoring the reality he might never be the QB we drafted him to be... And we would be dumb to let Cousins go...

Can't keep them both. Logic says trading Cousins is still the plan, unless Cousins plays out of his mind and the team wins a ton of games it's hard to imagine the plan changing.

I remember when Loins fans got up in arms when Stafford got repeatedly hurt early in his career. Megatron, for one, is happy that the Loins did not give up on Stafford.

I've been stunned at how many career eulogies I've seen the past couple of days for Griffin. If he's back after the bye week then it's going to be quite interesting to see what some of these 'writers' have to say.

With at least 7 games until then, we will fully know what Cousins brings over an extended period of meaningful playing time. He'll face all 3 division teams, the SB champs and 2 teams (Titans & Vikings) we should beat. This is as balanced of a window we could ask for to evaluate him and our QB future should be clearer, one way or the other, after they bye.

Long term, I expect RG3 to be the starter, perhaps even finishing the season as such this year.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Dirtbag brought up Aaron Rodgers as an example earlier in this thread...

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time

I think we need to revisit this convo after Kirk has played in a few more games.

And, no, Smoot, you're not the only one who saw RGIII playing well before he got hurt. I saw it, my wife saw it (before she fell asleep on the couch, lol!)

In the end, whatever and whoever gets us to another Super Bowl championship is who I'll roll with. If it's RGIII, Kirk Cousins, or Stone Cold Steve Austin, that's who I'll pull for. Team first!

But for the record, if we do compare RGIII to Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien in their primes, RGIII is probably still head and shoulders over in terms of athletic ability and ceiling height.

What did your wife watch 5 minutes then fall asleep?

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time

So evidently there are a number of QBs who suffered a lot of injuries early on in their careers and bounced back to be franchise QBs. What might present more challenges for RGIII than for some of those other QBs are the nature of the injuries he's suffered combined with his style of play. Much of his game is predicated on mobility; he's now had two knee reconstructions and pretty serious ankle injury. If this causes him to lose a step, lateral quickness, agility, etc., then he will be playing without his best attributes. I'd much prefer he'd torn his labrum into little pieces. That being said, it's foolish at this point to consider him finished.
