Yes, society has reached the point that as a teacher you cannot been seen doing that. The same people that treat you as an over-paid babysitter can't stand the idea that you might be normal and enjoy a drink in your free time.

But do we want to further it more?

The same social forces going after the NFL, the Vikings, and the Ravens are the same ones coming after us for having a racist team name.

It's all righteous feel good stuff until its your team being targeted for whatever reason.

Be careful what we wish for.
Except the racism stuff is being fueled by a minority and a lot of white guilt (my opinion on the guilt thing) and people just banged their drum over and over and over until folks finally started paying attention.

Killing dogs (who can't defend themselves), beating children (who also can't defend themselves) and throwing a left hook at your wife, I'm pretty sure are universally condemnable things.

if those were the only examples you'd have a point and I'd be with right there with you.

this path only leads in one direction. it's interesting to watch, that's for sure.

Anyways, my point wasn't to equate the issues. It was to point out it's the same methods, used by the same people, to accomplish similar goals.

You can not do one without the other. You can not attempt to say they use the same methods and people and have the same goals without some sort of equivocation.

And as was already said, one of those things is not like the others. In fact, one of those things is not in the same ballpark, the same league ... not even the same sport ... as the others.

the irony is there's a lot of people that think we're all racists and find our support for our team reprehensible. you're missing the point.

you can rationalize it all you want. go see how redskins fans are being treated on twitter.

oh well.

Well some maybe. I think the majority of the racist stuff is directed at DS as he is the owner and one with the authority to change the name. A man punches a woman or beats a child he is a wife beater. He is a child abuser. There is no gray area. I root for a team that a minority of the entire population deem to have racist roots to its nickname does not make me a racist. If some blowhole is saying it does on some website he is stupid and should go away. Lol.
