What Orakpo think of himself as a player and what he is worth is IMO waaaay different than what it is in reality.

Re: Is Brian Orakpo career as a Redskin possibly over

Haven't read the entire thread so I apologize for redundancy.

Orakpo is a good player to have on the team. He is not a franchise player. He has simply not been a play maker elite or otherwise. I would like to have him back for a reasonable price BUT I don't think he takes a reasonable price. Someone will overpay him. Personally, I think his "market value" as a UFA will be well above his value to us. At the same time, I will be sorry to see him go - if only b/c it creates a whole that needs to be filled and will likely be filled by a downgrade.

I think retaining him this year was not a horrible decision, it gave T.Murphy some time to develop. Hopefully, Murphy can step in and play. He doesn't have the raw talent of Rak but then Rak never seemed to play up to his talent.

If Rak comes back, great - so long as he realizes, he is not and never will be an elite player. Otherwise, it's probably best for both sides to move on.

Time to move on for both sides. Good dude and all but he's just not the difference maker we need him to be.

I don't see why we couldn't replicate with Rak what was recently done with DHall. Let Rak test the open market -- he won't find big money with his combination of injury history and lack of production (stats-wise, at least) this season, and I wouldn't mind at all having him back but for a lot less money. If he comes in on a one year deal and tears it up (on the field I mean, not another pec), then we can consider something longer term. But I think he is surely better than anyone else we can plug in right now who is already on the squad or that we can pick up without spending a lot of $, and I would rather see that spent on O-Line and safety help where we are by far more thin. And if he isn't willing to come down money-wise, then we part ways and wish him well. I think the guy has not lived up to expectations, but I don't question his heart (his brains, maybe, for not realizing or pursing any move to the QB other than a bull rush).

Just read that Orakpo's pec injury is most likely a season ender. Surprise surprise.

At the end of the year, put a reasonable multi-year offer in front of him. (not sure what the number might be but certainly, 2nd tier DE money). If he takes it, great. If not, see ya.

I don't mind having him back. I do mind the constant "Should we have him back" debate. Decide what he's worth to the team over the next 4 years, put the offer out there, if he can do better, good for him.

Realistically, the Redskins already have players on the team (even if it's by committee) that can come in and provide the same quality of play as Orakpo for much less than what we'd have to offer Brian to stay - even at a discount.

Cut him loose, wish him well, and allocate those funds toward keeping Ryan Kerrigan.

It's official -- done for the year. Disappointing all around.

Trent Murphy, step on up.

I'd at least make a modest offer to Rak, but if someone wants to pay him more so be it.

Which actually may be in play now that he tore his pec again.

Hopefully Rex Ryan gets fired and we can hire him to right this defensive mess we have.

What is your idea of a "modest" contract? Just curious at the numbers involved.

Me, I said last year 9.5mil/yr was about all I would be willing to offer, but I overshot that by a lot. I wouldn't offer him anything over 5.5-6mil/yr to be honest.
