Its also interesting Eagles are chosing to guys like Riley Cooper and Macklin(Im assuming they will pay him) over D Jax and Shady McCoy. Also they get rid of Trent Cole a team leader instead of re working his deal and Cary Williams...a very solid CB. These are huge gambles in which history shows dont work out. Anybody remember Andy Reid clearing a bunch of cap space 4-5 years ago and then going on a spending spree? Anybody remember Spurrier bringing only in his ex florida players? Interesting folks seem to forget recent history

Re: All things off season 2015.
Profootball talk saying Eagles prefer Mark Ingram and will go after him. Mark Ingram's career long run is 35 yards set his rookie year and seems to miss games every year due to injury. All I can say is my fingers are crossed.

That's odd. You'd think that Shady fits Kelly's system better than Ingram.

Re: All things off season 2015.
IMO, it is definitely a bad trade for Philly. Few backs in the NFL are as hard to contain as McCoy. His explosiveness and versatility covered for the very average WR's on that team. Now, with less of a running threat, the Philly offense is going to have more trouble moving the ball.
Also, I think Philly could and should have gotten more for McCoy. Alonzo is not equivalent value, IMO. They probably would have gotten more if Kelly wasn't so focused on bringing in former Oregon players. On top of that, Alonzo is coming off of a serious injury, so his play will probably be adversely affected by that this coming season. But I'm all for the trade because it's good for us. Keep up the good work, Chip!

I would imagine its almost like Chip said cool I can get a player I know and dump this huge contract. Instead of just flat out releasing him Still it is very risky, but I almost wonder if he cleared space to attempt to sign a guy like Murray

Re: All things off season 2015.
Did the Eagles get any draft picks along with this trade? Otherwise, I just don't see the logic in it? I am going to be extremely upset if this somehow, magically, works out for the Eagles. This is straight up Vinny Cerrato/Steve Spurrier territory.

Re: All things off season 2015.
So I hear we re-signed Ihenacho. Isn't he the guy that tore his ACL about 30 seconds after we signed him from the Broncos? Geez, we have a tendency to go after fragile safties (Thomas, Merriweather, Ihenacho). Fragility is not something one would or should associate with that position.

Re: All things off season 2015.
I don't disagree with this at all, but we've had a lot of guys in the secondary with significant injury and who have missed significant time (Ihenacho, Thomas, Hall, Merriweather, Porter, T. Robinson). I realize a few of these folks won't be back, but looking at FAs that also have significant injury histories -- including the news about Tyvon Branch coming in for a visit; he's played in only 5 games the last 2 years -- doesn't seem terribly wise, as even these low risk contracts begin to add up.

I think what you are seeing is Scot McCloughan allowing his present scouting staff to either sink or swim. He's evaluating what they are turning into him. So, these guys that the 'skins are re-signing or bringing in for a visit might just merely be Scot's way deciding who stays or who goes on his staff. Just remember, things aren't going to be perfect this offseason. McCloughan will make some good moves (probably more in terms of the draft and rookie signings), but there will be a lot of evaluating of his own staff. He did say he would go through free agency and the draft with the present scouting staff. So, I would probably just about say that any offseason moves that turn out to be head scratchers will probably just be a result of trusting the opinion of those remaining staff members - who probably won't be here next year.

Perhaps we could find a rookie who could start at SS but there is little chance that we're going to get a starting FS out of the draft this year. I have no problem with giving the right FA a lucrative contract to anchor our secondary as our starting FS because we currently have NOBODY at FS and filling that position can't wait.
