According to the International Business Times, Christie might have violated state ethics rules in accepting a plane ride and tickets from Jones to the game. Public officials have a "zero tolerance policy for acceptance of gifts," from people who have business with the politician. Christie barred New Jersey officials from receiving tickets to event at state-owned venues leading up to last year's Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium.

Christie spokesman Kevin Roberts told NJ.com that Jones picked up the tab for Christie and the governor's family, citing The Code of Conduct for the Governor in which the governor, "may accept gifts, favors, services, gratuities, meals, lodging or travel expenses from relatives or personal friends that are paid for with personal funds."

Hypocrite? I wonder whether it would be considered a crime; that code of conduct quote sounds dubious to me. Ask Bob McDonnell about that.

Does the State of New Jersey or Christie himself have some sort of business relationship with Jerry Jones? Bob McDonnell was accused of taking "gifts" from people that were looking to do business with the state of Va. At that point, it goes from being a gift to being a bribe.

Its not a conflict of interest if no business dealings are present or none appear in the future while he is still in office.

So, yes, I think there is the potential that this crossed the line. And separately of whether there was an ethical violation or an actual crime, politicians accepting lavish gifts (and so publicly flaunting them no less) is just bad -- it undermines whatever confidence peopkle have in their public servants. Anyone with integrity -- much less someone hoping to be President someday -- ought to know better and err on the side of caution. I like that Christie is so plain spoken -- more politicians ought to be. But he's also an arrogant jerk, and his Cowboy fandom.

Separately, I just got an ESPN notifier that Scott M. is oiur new GM!!

If thats true about Jerry's dealing with the Port Authority, then I agree, thats starting to look less like a gift and more like a bribe (or reward after the fact which can still be construed as a bribe imo). I really have no problem with him being in Jerry's box, but when Jerry is picking up the tab for travel and all that stuff, that definitely looks bad. Christie should have paid for everything himself to avoid the whole gift/bribe thing since Jerry has dealings with at least some factions of the NJ Govt.

I couldn't agree more. Makes my stomach turn: "He's part of our mojo," Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. "I want him there all the way. I'll tell you, if he's got enough mojo to pull this thing out, he ought to be looked at as president of the United States."

Hopefully, that "mojo" (both for the Cowpukes and Christie) gets the life stomped out of it on the frozen tundra in Lambeau this weekend. Please, oh please Packers -- run up a score.
