Re: All things off season 2015.

^It's a huge risk though. Alonso's only played 1 season in the NFL and has two ACL tears and a torn labrum in the last 4 years, while McCoy is an elite running back and the best player on that team. The cap savings may be a plus now, but in two years you'll have to pay Alonso anyway... and it's gonna be a huge salary if he recovers and plays as well as he did in Buffalo.

Schefter tweeted that Philly now has 9 Oregon players that played college ball for CK.

Re: All things off season 2015.

McCoy killed us. Now he's gone from our division. That's what I call a good trade - for us!

Chip Kelly continues to display his desire to have as many former Oregon players as he can get. That makes me think that he will do whatever it takes to move up in the draft to select Mariota. Some team is going to fleece him so badly on draft day that he'll be wearing a barrel before the 10th pick is made. I'm going to enjoy that.

Winner winner, chicken dinner.

If Alonso recovers from the ACL and stays injury free, he could be a stud inside linebacker for many years. Is he the next Patrick Willis or Ray Lewis? I think that is doubtful.

McCoy had a down year last year and still got 1,300 yards. He was not as impactful as he has been in the past. In part, I think his lack of explosive plays last year was due in part to no longer having the threat of DJax to take the top off a defense (Maclin was very effective last year but just not the same type of threat). Frankly, and for similar reasons, I think in Buffalo he will be less effective than he was in CK's offense.

I still think he is a 1,200 yard back with good receiving skills and a better back than the CJ Spiller/F. Jackson combo Buffalo trotted out the last couple years. He probably has 3 really good years left, maybe 4. Will he be elite? probably not. Will he be great? Maybe. He will be a very good back for them and a significant upgrade on their offense.

With all of that said, I think he was a great/elite back in CK's offense and perfectly suited to give defenses fits trying to shut him down. He was part of the Philly mojo that seemed to own consistently own us, and I am very, very glad he is gone.

Re: All things off season 2015.

Kelly is not the exactly the same as Spurrier but there a lots of similarities.

Both are/were arrogant and simply believe they are/were just smarter than everyone in the room (in Spurrier's case, it was more that he believed he knew football better than everyone else).

The big difference between them is that CK works hard and pays attention to details. That was simply not Spurrier's style and, ultimately, why he failed in the NFL.

In my mind, the jury is still out on CK. He's got a two years of winning records in the NFL and many aspects of his offense are being incorporated around the league. At the same time, his whole "we will run you ragged" approach is really overplayed. Other teams run "faster" offenses and he still has yet to show he can grind out wins when grinding needs be done. I am betting his whole "we practice, eat, and train differently" will also wear on players and is simply not a long term practicality. It's fine for college kids, but pros aren't 21 any more. Once they have been in the league for a few years, if they want to stay, they realize its a business and practicing their craft and perfecting their technique requires more than gimmicky practice routines.

Right now, CK's approach is still novel and has buy-in b/c of some instant success. Of course, that success was achieved with a couple of very talented playmakers in DJax and Shady and a very good offense line (Before last year, and ever since they signed Peters, the Eagles O-Line was probably the best in the division. Last year, however, they began to show some age). So, let's see how he does when he trots out the Ducks' offense with the same players he had in college (and Riley Cooper) and an O-Line that is no-longer elite.

I have been predicting the end of the Eagles for several years now and each time I am convinced they are, finally, headed back to irrelevance (you know, like us), they reemerge and win tons of games. So, while I am hopeful that Philly will crash and burn like the POS's they are, I will be convinced of it when they have had a two or three double digit loss seasons in a row. Hopefully, that starts soon.

Last post Eagles post of the morning.

Kelly has just ripped apart the remnants of the perennial winner in Philly. Trent Cole, Todd Herremans, DeMeco Ryans (likely to be cut with Alonso trade).

It's all on him now.

With LeSean McCoy deal, the Philadelphia Eagles are Chip Kelly's team - ESPN

Re: All things off season 2015.

Chip Kelly has now gotten rid of two players who in 2013 accounted for almost 3,000 yards and 18 TDs.

At first glance I was like WTF is Philly doing? I still think that to a degree but let's face it, teams just don't want to pay backs the crazy money these days. He's only 26 and has plenty of gas in the tank, might be one of those deals that work out well for both teams. I'm glad we won't have to see him 2x a year now.

I guess it wouldn't be such a big deal if Kelly hadn't gotten rid of DJax the way that he did. But as you said, I'm thrilled we don't have to deal with McCoy.

Dont you think McCoy would have fetched more than an injuried LB? Also, why didnt Buffalo try to include Foles?

Its also interesting Eagles are chosing to guys like Riley Cooper and Macklin(Im assuming they will pay him) over D Jax and Shady McCoy.

Also they get rid of Trent Cole a team leader instead of re working his deal and Cary Williams...a very solid CB.

These are huge gambles in which history shows dont work out.

Anybody remember Andy Reid clearing a bunch of cap space 4-5 years ago and then going on a spending spree? Anybody remember Spurrier bringing only in his ex florida players?

Interesting folks seem to forget recent history

Has anyone thought about how quick Rex Ryan is taking over with the Bills ?This is a hell of a pick up for them .
