If he doesn't think he will be cut, he wouldn't alter the contract. In other words, if he thinks his relationship with DS overrides the football side, why would he.

And also, maybe he wants to use it to force the team to cut him so he can try to go somewhere he wants instead of having the team dictate the trade talks.

Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season

The question of keeping RGIII as a fall-back option, to me, is a question of risk/reward balancing. First, it is based on an assumption that KC/JG fail b/c, if they succeed, then no reason at all to keep RGIII.

Assuming they fail, what value does Griffin provide as a fall-back option? I would suggest minimal to none. Keeping him to foist on yet another regime, IMHO, limits potential coaching hires - "He couldn't make it work with his last two coaches, but he's your QB." Pretty sure that would be a deal breaker for a lot of guys. Even if the potential hire is told "Look, just kick the tires. If he doesn't work out for you, you don't have to play him," what coach wants to walk into that or would trust that statement? Would you? Two coaches out the door and RGIII still hangs around.

The more I look at it the more I am convinced that - as much as I wish it wasn't true - RGIII's time here should end. It's time to cut our losses and move on. Even if JG was responsible for his further regression, I just don't see any scenario where a coach comes here and revitalizes his career.

At this point, I just don't see an offense that works for him, and, contrary to your opinion, I don't see a SM driven clean-sweep as a bad thing. New coach gets his QB and is not saddled with an injury prone guy who, after four years in the league, is basically still a developmental QB who cannot seem to avoid off the field drama.

Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season

This whole griffin conversation is old now. We drafted a heisman bust. That's it. How many years does a team keep a heisman bust?
Get rid of dead weight. The. End.
This whole thing has gotten ridiculous. I was all about the trade to get him, and all about his play in year one. He has regressed every year since.
I don't have stats, or fancy talk to back this up. Just what I've seen and heard. He has shown negative progress. On the field. Jg has a 5 year contract and is in year number 2. Griffin is on year 4 of a 4 year contract with a 1 year extension. This one's simple. Gruden has more time left than griff. So talking about how if Gruden fails being the reason griff should stay doesn't add up. That's assuming you KNOW Gruden is getting tossed after this year. For all intents and purposes....Griffin is way closer to the door, based on the contracts.

Not that I disagree, but is it possible he was coerced/nudged into backtracking?

god it sucks being a Redskins fan sometimes. Most here are 7-9 wins and I would be happy... Man so much for the glory days... Most fans now don't even have any idea what the glory days were.

One day at a time grasshopper.. 7 wins this year is solid progress and with Scot working the draft we're heading back in the direction of the glory days. And I think a lot of guys here are plenty old enough to remember them.. Demanding 12 wins a year isn't realistic right now. If Scot does what Scot does and we can get positive momentum, I think we can get back to where we all want to be but it takes a few years to build a roster out. At least we have football people making football decisions. That only took 16 years..

Wow.. Maybe Joe has been a little too close to the Washington area for too long. He's talking from both sides of his mouth.

I wouldn't ever listen to Gibbs on any player. Dude isn't going to be honest about his assessment on these players. Just playing the PC role and bloking smoke up our asses. Kinda like a Larry Michael.
