As for Way's kicks, Gruden said in his post game presser that they were kicking away from Austin and that caused Way to lose yardage on his punts. In other words, I don't think Way choked; rather, I think he is likely not a very good directional kicker yet.
Stop making sense, I like the "he choked" angle better. Clearly he's just a bad punter, even though he led the league in average last year.

Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

I am trying not to get over-hyped for this game. (might be too late since I already have off from work)

This is the game where we put up.

This is the game that we announce to the rest of the NFC East that YES! we are gonna run it down their throats.

This is the game that will test how much Jay/McVay are willing to stick with the Callahan gameplan when the going gets rough, and it will.

It will be tempting to air it out against the Giants because their pass defense has been porous on paper.
But if we are gonna be a run team...this is the game where Bill, Alf and Matt announce their presence with authority.

Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

I predicted losses for the first two games and I picked us to be beaten pretty handily by the Rams, so...in the interests of superstition, I'm picking the Giants to embarrass us on national television...52-16

This game is HUGE. This game is a tone-setter for the rest of the year IMO. Usually the third week of the regular season is not the end-all-be-all, however, considering all the negativity and recent years of losing...beating the Giants AT MET Life Stadium, could signal a major shift in the direction of our franchise. Would be a huge statement as well for both Gruden and Cousins...

Sad that Riley's out, but Compton is MUCH better in coverage for us. He can actually run with LBs.

He is. Perry Riley is a thumper though and so far has been a much better fit in Barry's coverages than last year's.

Riley brings more pain than Compton, but against a Manning it may work out.

Choke or not, he shanked that punt late in the game deep in our territory. Since he was asked to kick away from a dangerous return man and he hasn't had much in-game experience at directional punting, not to mention your irrelevant point that he led the league in average last season, is it then OK for him to shank one late in a close game? The correct answer is "Hell no!".

Bottom line: He ****ed up. I don't know why he shanked that punt but he definitely shanked it. Nobody punts the ball 27 yards or 17 yards or whatever the distance of that punt was on purpose.

He's a good punter. I never said he wasn't. You inferred that. His rare bad punt was just one example of a poor ST play. Nevertheless, my point is that we can't have people on ST continuing to make crucial mistakes if we're going to beat the Giants or anyone else.

You know things are good when our biggest discussion point/argument is whether or not out punter screwed up a punt in a win. HTTR

Agreed. That is part of the optimism that seems to be creeping in around the edges here. Players that we all agree should be gone, are actually, well... gone. And even if we don't all agree, say like Kai, the general flow is that underperformance, even if not killing the team, just won't be considered acceptable.

That makes the games more fun to watch, because everyone looks like they are supposed to be on a football field. I just hope the season continues this trend!

if their LT can't suit up, that'd make things much easier for our DL.

We need to pound Eli. He doesn't respond well to pressure. Plus, I don't like Eli. I'd love to see a sack-fest in the Giants backfield.

Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

Mel Kiper made this comments about Terrance Plummer before the senior bowl, nice to hear.

On Terrance Plummer: Terrance Plummer, who is an overachieving middle linebacker, very productive, always around the ball, never on the ground. Interesting guy as a late round pick. I think Plummer all over the field in a number of games this year. The Missouri game was a game you look back at he looked like he could be a third or fourth round pick. But I think in the late rounds, Plummer would make a lot of sense. If he's not drafted, he could be a real steal at that point.

Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

Redskins 28
Giants 13

MoJo combine for 175 yards and 3 TDs, and we force 2 TOs

I hope I am right.
