Half the teams in the league would offer him real money tonight.

If he isn't the QB here next year, then who should we start from scratch with?

He is going into the prime of his career, it's unrealistic to think he would give the skins a short term contract so they can figure out what he is worth.

The 15th highest paid QB this year is Alex smith with an avg salary of $17M per year.
NFL Salary Rankings | Spotrac

A lot of teams need a QB and he is the best free agent QB available.

he is getting paid!

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

If kirk pulls out a win this week it'll be huge for his future here.

I can't believe how we are talking about Cousins being the future of the team..i say trade him now for 4th round pick and lets get RGIII back behind center where he belongs..NOT!! but this was exactly what was being said not that many days ago..i am glad the redskins don't listen to us the fans..

We beat teams with a combine record of 16-21. We haven't beat a team with a winning record.

Cousins only win on the road was Cleveland in 2012.

lets pump our brakes and nobody is saying cousins isn't the future. The main reason he is we have zero better options. FA and draft looks bleak with QB. Im for Cousins as the starter next year, but lets chill out a little bit.

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

I admit that I am a Kirk skeptic. He has made huge strides in winning me over with his last three games. If he plays well - accurate throws, no his-fault INT's - at Carolina, I will be much more positive in my outlook. If he throws out a clunker, it will be a confirmation that he is still inconsistent.

It's like having a 70% at midterms, you need to pretty much do "A" quality work from there on out to end up with a B.

Cousins has three years of C work (or worse). So far this year, in total, he has been inconsistent and, at times, horrible. I believe he is our best option this year and next. We should resign him - or extend him - soon. For me to believe he has actually changed his inconsistent ways for good, he really needs to play well (not great, not perfectly, not mistake free - just well) the rest of the way out. Unlike other established QB's, and in my opinion, he has not won the luxury of a "benefit of the doubt" game.

His last three games were A and A+ work. It would be great if he could continue it or even maintain a quality "B." He has seven more games - here's hoping he has truly, truly turned the corner.

I think you're cherry picking stats just like the fictional "3rd quarter" problem the media harped on before. There is nothing magical about road games. It's different, for sure, but I don't buy the premise that he falls apart on the road. We almost won the Falcons game minus the Grant slip-up.

You mean the interception Cousins threw?

Im not cherry picking nada...im just saying we need to calm it the f*ck down with the Cousins stuff. Lets see how everything plays out. I want Cousins to be the man, but I still have concerns.

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

Middle of the pack, and on the come. Again, no reason to rush into a decision now, but with the way it's going we'd probably be crazy to let him go.

I wouldn't rely solely on this information. Nobody thinks Ryan Fitzpatrick is a long term answer. But this definitely illustrates progress.

Total QBR - 2015 Thru Week 10

1 Carson Palmer, ARI 82
2 Ben Roethlisberger, PIT 74

Cousins has proved himself to be a starter in the league. I would have no problem giving him middle of the pack starter money at this point. I'm willing to bet on the progress we have seen- and move on to build around him.

IMO GM SM devalues the QB position relative to the rest of the league. He can live with that kind of contract as long as both sides are not too far apart and focus his resources on the draft.

I see us taking a flyer on a QB in the mid-later rounds to serve as a backup. I love where this team is headed.

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

Agree completely. KC has been an average QBR -- but has shown some promise. Heck, he's made Redskins history in two of the past 3 weeks. He could fail horribly for the rest of the season, but from what I've seen, he seems to be getting better with more experience. He does better when Reed and Jackson are on the field. Who knows where he ends up, just need to play it out.

Of note, look at the QBs below him on that QBR list: Newton, Luck, Flacco, Wilson, Manning, Stafford..

It should be noted that QBR is of course a measure of overall QB performance, which of course is partially dependent upon the play of those around you.

Luck's been injured and his offensive line has been bad - everyone understands he's one of the best QB prospects moving forward, no matter what the numbers say. Russell Wilson, same thing. That line has been a sieve this year.

But yeah still, Cousins is proving he can play in this league. Keep improving personnel around him and he might be able to move that QBR from 60 to 70, then we really have something going. Basically just stay the McCloughan course.

I have no idea what goes into QBR or DVOA or DYAR but it is better when our players aren't near the bottom of the lists.

Re: Who is Kirk Cousins?

No reason at this point to think we can't move forward with Cousins. Of course the last 7 games will help see things more clearly, but he's at least trending in the right direction.

Starting over (again) doesn't make much sense especially when you see what's out there for free agents/draft.
