Re: Breaking News on team name

The name "redskins" wasn't a slur when it originated. It's not used that way now by Washington fans.

It was used as a slur by novelists and later movie studios, some copyright holders in the "entertainment industry" thereof probably still having deep pockets?

So why not go after the people who profited from using the name as an insult, rather than the fans cheering FOR the Redskins today?

And yet most native americans disagree with your article, giantone.

Redskins Name OK With Most Native Americans

In fact, the poster in your stupid article is completely wrong, the name "redskins" wasn't coined to describe scalps at all, but to distinguish NAs from whites (redskins vs whiteskins).

We have been through this argument before, giantone. I am surprised you are still displaying your ignorance on this issue. Even though you have been shown these facts before. Are you just trolling now?

First all I was responding to it (the name) that it's not considered a slur.Second if you go back you will see I am on the side of Dan Snyder but feel that change will come so beat them to the punch. As Rushskins has said go with the R on the helmet and just call them the Skins or Washington ,you seem to ignore the facts so I won't get into the ignorance argument . I will say that no I'm not trolling just making a comment on a posting of a forum I happen to go on. Opinions happen.

And yet you continually miss the point that most people, including most NAs, don't consider "redskins" a slur. Especially in current usage (the football team).

And again, we have been though this before, with you claiming it was racist, and even trying to claim evidence that didn't even use the actual word in a racist way. And I called you on it then.

Instead you continue display your ignorance, whether it's genuine or trolling on your part. Ignorance is apparently an opinion too, so thank you for displaying it as a Giants fan, I actually appreciate that as a Redskins fan.

What is ignorant is not understand the other side of the argument. You say there is none so anyone who tries to explain it to you is in your words"ignorant"I feel sorry for you .As I have said before for this to be coming out now or even two years ago is HS and I actually back DS on this issue .Now for you to say the most NA's feel like you do or the word was never a racial slur is not correct believe me or don't it makes no difference to me all I'm doing is voicing my opinion in a forum. You say you called me on it and I threw it back at you .It's called an honest debate.

Actually "Skin" or "Skins" is a term used by Indians (for one another) when making the reference in a positive way........on the down low

In other news, making a stand is still trendy. More to come on the news at 11.

Re: Breaking News on team name

I can understand the reason for the name change this is being tossed around from certain people, and the name its self should be looked at as an honor to the America Indian nationality. Iam sure when the name was chosen, it wasn't to show any disrespect to any American indian tribe or heritage, but it was chosen for the "nickname" of their heritage. Today's world is all about change what was then should be changed to something else. If the name is ordered by law to change the team name I have no complaints, but as long as the team colors and "concept" of the American indian heritage is kept, i'll be happy. As for a name change, Maybe the Warriors or maybe the Tribe ?

It was...over 200 years ago. Just like the words Vikings and Yankees were. During the Holocaust rainbows were used to mark gay and homosexual prisoners and was meant as an insult. Now the rainbow symbol is used as a badge of pride and honour among the crowd who uses it. In this day and age none of those words or symbols are seen as insults.
