Re: Cousins has arrived
You need balance in the playoffs...any qb throwing 46 times in the playoffs means you had a shitty day on defense (check) and your run game was ineffective (check, we didn't try to run)

Re: Cousins has arrived
2 things that will always lead to winning:
1. Running the ball successfully 2. Rushing the passer successfully Packers did both things better and we lost.

Kerrigan wasn't 100% for a lot of this year.

Re: Cousins has arrived
Cousins is the QB next year. Like him love him or hate him. That's our guy and if we don't sign him he's getting franchised. He's not gonna sign for less than that for 1 year.

Re: Cousins has arrived
I like what i see from Cousins .. in this system with these weapons.
Cousins "cliche" talk about re-signing scares me. "I want to be where I am wanted," said Cousins, who now becomes a free agent, "and you want to be with people who believe in you and we are going to find out -- because we haven't discussed it much yet -- how much I am wanted and where that'll go." Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins: 'I want to be where I'm wanted' - Washington Redskins Blog- ESPN Cousins sounds like he is saying, "show me the money" and that he is going highest bidder. dont over play your hand kirk. you had a great season but you were put in position to succeed by others around you as well. gruden/mcvay called plays to your absolute strengths and masked your weaknesses. reed and co. did a great job of getting you targets and catching the ball. a weak final 4 game schedule also helped coming from 5-7. film of this offense will be out next year and d coordinators are going to do what the pack did last night.

Even if that isn't his intentions or meaning, it should be. Let's be honest. Kirk wasn't given a fair shake due to Danny's love for RG3. Kirk was denied a QB competition that 3rd year because lil danny wanted his BFF to start. You don't think that isn't in the back of his mind? If I were Kirk, I'd go to the highest bidder as well. Hell, even at the beginning of the year, we heard SS talk about how it was Snyder that Kirk needed to prove something to. (beyond Jay) Even that hug was awkward by Danny the other weekend. He knows good and damn well that Bruce and Danny didn't want him here. That said, the risk you take by not signing him long term is the same risk the Raven faced. They went into that season haggling over 1mil/yr on a 15-16mil contract, and ended up having to pay him 20+ mil after that Super Bowl run (which is hurting that team big time). If you don't pay Kirk a 5yr/85-90mil contract and franchise him. Chances are, if he does very well that franchise year, that price tag will now vault from the 17-18mil/yr range to the 22-23mil/yr range. I'd rather go with the 17/18mil/yr with a lower guaranteed than wait next year.

Re: Cousins has arrived
Correction on this. I meant to put 5yr/85-90mil. Kirk definitely isn't in a position yet to demand 20+mil a year. I think the contract hits about 17-18mil/yr with us being able to get out after that second year. (if it's structured properly)

Re: Cousins has arrived
I dont think he should take any less then the franchise tag. So anything under 19 would be foolish to take if I was his agent.

The only possible disaster for the Redskins in their negotiations with Kirk and his agent would be for the Skins to be forced to tag him. In that event, the Skins would not be able to manage around the $19.5MM cap hit. As a fan, I don't really care how much the Redskins pay him as long as it is structured to allow enough cap space to give Scot M. the flexibility he needs to continue building the team. If Kirk cares about winning, and I'm sure he does, he'll cooperate with the Redskins in structuring the deal.

Re: Cousins has arrived
I wouldn't read too far into his comments. He knows this is the best spot for him. He doesn't seem like a chase the money kind of guy.

Re: Cousins has arrived
I agree -- too much character to be a jerk in the negotiations, I would think.
Separately, I saw Randall Cobb's video clip saying that he wasn't trolling Kirk Cousins by saying "You like that" after the game -- he was really "channeling his inner Cousins" and responding as Kirk did to everyone doubting the Redskins by showing some fight because the same thing was happening to the Packers the last few weeks. Seemed totally classy and I came away impressed with the dude.

Who cares if he was or was not. They beat us fair and square and alot of people were doubting them. If we beat them and one of our guys did a discount double check I would be grinning from ear to ear. |
