I'm not sold on Long as LG or Licht as C anymore. Raji pushed him into last week & LeRib was thrown around all year. We have to be stout, especially in the middle.

And our short yardage backs are HORRIBLE.
What ever happened to diving over the pile?

We end up walking into the line standing up & getting stuffed, followed by a 2 yard loss.

Remember Shawn Lauvao is still under contract and in his prime. He showed in camp, preaseason, and the first couple games of the season he was our best run blocking lineman. He should retain the left guard position

I think the WRs corps needs to be overhauled.

Jay's offense is decidedly pass first. Jay's offense, by design, trades runs for short passes. While that's good for passing yardage numbers it imo degrades run game production. As logical by product of pass centered offense is more time and emphasis gets devoted in practice and gameplan to the pass then the run. So, Kirk carrying the offense is imo a major part of the reason the run game was weak.

Anyhow...looking ahead I think the number 1 need for this team is a #1 WR.
A true #1 WR in today' hands free secondary can change an offense. Imo one of the flaws in our passing offense is that Garcon doesn't consistently win nor separate when the play design doesn't do it for him. (Kyle was great at that btw). If the play calls for X to 'win' and gain separation on their on against press or man-under defense Pierre doesn't win often enough. DeSean on the other hand almost always 'wins' 1 on 1s press/man-under, or whatever. But DeSean doesn't run the whole route tree. In breaking routes, between the hashes/numbers isn't DeSean strength.

A WCO with a #1 WR that consistently 'wins' changes everything.

I would also try to create as physically a dominating OL as possible. I believe Jay will stick with run game more if the OL can maul dudes.

Going forward my draft/offseason priorities are:
WRs, CB, 34 DE, Pass Rusher, OG/C, Blocking/Well rounded TE, NT, QB

I actually agree with you and Chico. Although I would put pass rusher at the top. Putting pressure on the QB changes the entire dynamic of the defense and can mask deficiencies at other positions.

Would love to have a true 6'4" #1 WR and a true #1 CB. I think pass rush, WR and CB should be something a team should be willing to pay for while developing talent.

Not sure where we stand on safety either. Hall was playing well and Ihenacho was playing well but is injury prone. I would guess an upgrade is coming.

I think we are going to be serviceable at TE with Niles Paul coming back. Niles Paul is an absolute junk yard dog on special teams and I'm sure he will bring the same attitude to blocking in the run game. He can't block a DE but he will give it hell and has great hands.

Also, not sure what Mclovin thinks about Spaight. I'm really interested to see how things develop this off season.

Many of you are talking about drafting a LG, we don't need one Kouandjio (from everything I read he has nasty attitude) will win that job next year. We do need a C.

Well u need to put RB on the list and fairly high.
Initial list

1. strong safety
2. Mauler/large Center
3. ILB (along side Compton)
4. RB
5. CB
6. Run Blocking TE
7 WR

There will be decisions to make with Pot Roast/Hatcher along the DL...it would be no surprise if we go d line first in draft. They are some ballers on the dline in this draft.

Sure for some coaches that is true for other coaches not so much. For me Jay falls into the not so much category. Net-net a "bluechip" WR is gonna have more impact on Jay's offense then a RB.

Everyone has different visions of the team they want and how to build it.
But, I think first a objective view of both where the current team is AND the vision the current HC and GM might have play a role in making the projections about draft.

That being said its tough to make a list of needs in order because the draft for me is about drafting the BPA and hopeful that addressing a position of need.

So in that vain if quickly grade out the position groups based on level of production and depth and mix in overall impact delivered vs expected...this is what I get.....

It looks like the surgeries were to clean up various pre-existing issues. Who knows? He may come back strong.

Lauvao landed on injured reserve after Week 3 with a serious ankle injury, but he took advantage of the downtime to fix some lingering foot issues. He expects to start walking in the next week and should be ready for OTAs. He will be 100 percent recovered by the time training camp rolls around. Jan 12 - 10:56 AM
