Nonsense. Ryan Tannehill got $45M guaranteed in his deal. If he was slapped with the franchise tag, and then put up the year he just had, there's no way he would get $45M guaranteed in the next renegotiation.

Playing under the franchise tag is incredibly risky for the player. Sure, it's $20M. But what if he blows an achilles or ACL? What if he pulls a Tannehill and regresses?

The player wants a good guarantee now. The prospect of playing under the franchise tag can be scary from his perspective.
