Re: Predict RGIII's next team

He's going to want to go where he has a chance to start. I honestly don't see one team where they would want him as their 16 game starter. Maybe the Rams. Cleveland will draft someone and that person will be their starter eventually. Eagles will end up resigning Bradford. He's going to have to go somewhere and probably be a backup.

Re: Predict RGIII's next team

How about this:

The Redskins trade RGIII for Kaepernick (yes I know this is farfetched), and then turnaround and trade Kaep to the Jets for a couple second round picks? Since he said that is where he wants to wind up?

Yes, probably dumb. I shouldn't drink while I post.

Saints. They have to be thinking Brees is on borrowed time.

Re: Predict RGIII's next team

I would say the Rams. Jeff Fisher will have gotten all those picks and still end up with the player who went at the number 2 spot. Fisher can finally say he won something.

As far as a trade, its not going to happen. RG3 will say no to any reworking of his contract so he can go to the team he wants, not the team the Redskins want. Plus, if a team is going to give him 5 mil a year (or whatever number) to do a trade, then they will offer that to him as a FA. There is absolutely zero reason for RG3 or his agent to care about reworking his contract for a trade.

I don't know, so I'm asking: If he Skins had a deal in place with another team that didn't want to risk losing RGIII to another team in FA, couldn't the Skins exercise his $16.5MM option and then trade him? If so, at that point his $16.5MM guaranteed contract would be the starting point for any negotiations between RGIII and his new team.

Yes but they would have to negotiate down because no one would be willing to pay that much for his services. Plus, if no deal happens then we are on the hook for the 16.5mil

His option is already exercised, that was done last year. But it does not become guaranteed money until the start of the new league year (march 9th). Since its not guaranteed, the Redskins can cut him before then without having to pay a cent of that.

If the Redskins do a trade, the team will either take RG3 at the 16+ mil option, or renegotiate a new contract with him. However, that needs to take place prior to march 9th. Since it guarantees then, and why would any player or agent renegotiate a guaranteed contract to a much lower price?

To me, its fairly simple. No team is going to pay him 16+ mil next year and RG3 will want the option to go to the team of his choosing. I will never say anything is impossible when it comes to professional sports, but I just dont see the RG3 camp as agreeing to any reduced contract right now with a team of the Redskins choosing.

I kinda disagree on RGIII having no motivation to be part of a trade. But the biggest motivation is non-football and maybe not a factor. DS has been nothing if not loyal to RGIII, and players have often shown loyalty to DS regardless of the coaching/FO mess and it may be that if the Skins deal only with teams he wants to go to, that he may pay back that loyalty by doing a deal within the framework of a trade. So maybe the Skins working with Griffins agent works up competing offers from Houston and SF,for example. If that happened the Skins might get a late pick or a player and RGIII and the other team have a mutually agreed deal in place.

Hey RG3, its Danny here. I want to show my loyalty to you by cutting your pay significantly and then send you to Cleveland...

The agent has no reason to work with the skins for competing offers. He can just wait for him to be cut and work with whatever teams are interested to work up competing offers. There really is nothing in it for them to do it that way. If a team makes a contract offer to do a trade, then that team will make the same offer in FA, and maybe more if other teams get involved. Even if its a difference of 2 mil per year or 2.1 mil. Why not go for the extra 100k?

As I said in the previous post, I will never say anything is impossible when it comes to professional sports. But I fully expect RG3 and his agent will just give the NFL line... Its a business and we made a business decision. He is leaving town, that is pretty much guaranteed. I doubt RG3 is going to lose sleep over the skins not getting an extra 6th or 7th round pick.

They may, but your comment is not what I was saying. More so Bruce Allen and DS say we are sorry it didn't work here but we are going to try and work with you and get you where you want to be.

It may not happen but personal relationships are huge when it comes to making deals and I think DS being at RGIII's bedside after his surgery is something that RGIII will never forget.

I remember when the story first broke about DS being at RG3's bedside. There were lots of comparisons to the Joe Theisman injury, etc. I remember one of the articles i read speculated that the reason why Dan Snyder had flown in to see RG3 was because his injury was considered to be "career ending", and they were hyping up the fact that DS had allegedly never flown to be with another injured player.

I thought since that day that RG3 and Snyder would always share some kind of bond. Still might be crazy but I think they figure out a way to keep him here as a backup, because it sounds like the Cousins situation has imploded...

People also don't realize that if a team approaches the Redskins about trading for RG3, it means that they are actually interested in him. So it'd be a stupid for him to flat out say no to a team that is interested in acquiring him. Even though teams know he'll be realize, some team may decide that they a.) want him and b.) don't want to have to fight over other teams for him.

Re: Predict RGIII's next team

If a trade is done I'll stick with my original guess of Houston or the 49's if it's a flat out release..... the Cowboys or Rams.
