The Redskins have signed one free agent from another team. And it was a relatively small contract.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

at this point in free agency, the big money is basically gone. anyone still holding out like JG or fitz has, in all likelyhood, already missed the boat (except maybe kaep, but that's a trade).

I wonder if there was any other interest in Reggie Nelson other than your basic kicking of tires

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

lets hope so, a good experienced free safety is vital ... even if he is a short term solution. Resigning Goldson is a desperate move.

I think we are talking...this could go like the Casey Hayward situation. If we negotiate and lose out, look for us to resign Goldson fairly quickly.

When Heyward agreed, we then made an offer to Blackmon to bring him back.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

The free agent market this year has not had a lot of choices for us or anyone else for that matter.
Its obvious why we have signed bupkiss.
Having said that I hope that McClue has something in the works to get us additional draft picks.
As it stands, I could see us drafting defense the first four rounds in a row.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec speculates Ravens SS Will Hill could be a cap cut following the signing of FS Eric Weddle.

Lardarius Webb's $9.5 million cap hit would be the most obvious cut, but Baltimore has made it clear they see Webb as a starting safety this season. Hill was the Ravens' best safety last year, but it could be difficult to justify his nearly $4.6 million cap hit if he is riding the bench. That said, Webb should be asked to play in the slot in sub packages, and both Webb and Weddle profile more as free safeties. It is possible all three are on the field together for the majority of the snaps in 2016. If anyone is getting cut, mega-bust Matt Elam might be the best candidate.

per Baltimore Sun

Could be an opportunity if one of their safeties are cut.

If they cut Will Hill in favor of Webb they are beyond stupid

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

I would definitely say it differently. The crop sucks in comparison to the money doled out in the first day or two. But there are still players that can help teams.

It's rare when you actually get your money's worth on the free agents that go in the first day or two. Olivier Vernon will be a prime example for years to come. No way he's worth more guaranteed money than JJ Watt.

Aging guys and role players can still play a big role on your team. At this point in free agency you're not going to find top-line starters so I get where you're coming from, but you can still find guys to fill roles. Special teams coverage ace, a guy like Pierre Thomas to be a receiving threat on third downs, these are little things that make the difference in winning and losing a lot of games.

The Cerrato move would have been to splurge on the guys available on day 1. But the right approach is to scour the player pool like McCloughan does and find role players who bring their lunch pail. You match the performance to the pay that way much better than you ever could on a day 1 free agent.

There are a lot of useful football players still available. Sometimes it just takes those players some time to come around to the fact that they're not going to land the dream pay day.

From Keim:

John Keim
ESPN Staff Writer

The Redskins hosted safety David Bruton Tuesday, according to a source. Bruton played strong safety for Denver and suffered a season-ending broken fibula on Dec. 20. The Broncos reportedly remain interested in re-signing a player who has been a team captain the last three years.

Seems Scot likes adding former captains. Galette, Goldson, Long, now Bruton ... makes sense.
