Re: MLB playoffs.
When it's that close though, the catcher should have tagged the batter as a precaution. Don't just assume he struck out.

Re: MLB playoffs.
While I think the catcher should have played it safe, the onus in this situation rests on the Umpire to clearly signal one way or another that the play was still live instead of backing off the fact that he signaled peirzinki(sp?) out. He has admited that he didn't say anything like they normally do that play hadn't stopped and he definitely shouldn't have made the closed fist gesture until the player had been tagged out. He said that that is his strike out gesture, but as they just showed on PTI, earlier in the game the umpire was in a similar situation with an angel at bat but he didn't make the same closed fist motion until after the player had been tagged. It's a big f-up on the angel's catchers part but in my opinion it's a vastly bigger f-up by the umpire for giving the angel players a premature signal of the chi sox player being out.
hopefully this doesn't spoil what looked to be an awesome matchup this series. |

Re: MLB playoffs.
The umpiring has been horrible in the playoffs. That was an atrocious call last night. I hope this puts more scrutiny on the umps. The calls on Cano in the last series was BS too. If the Angels lose the series, they really do have a gripe. Still you have to get out there and play and try and put it behind you.

Re: MLB playoffs.
While I agree that the catcher should make the tag, if you're behind the plate, and you know you catch it, your first instinct is to roll the ball back to the mound. Pierzynski took off because he didn't hear anything...and I think the umpire made a judgment call at that point, hence the out call and then the reversal of fortune.
If anything, the home plate umpire should have pointed to the 2nd base umpire to see if he saw it or not...because he's quite obvious that he didn't see it properly.

Re: MLB playoffs.
Well I'm off in 30 min. Can the clock move any slower?! I need to run past the store grab some beer and dogs. Meet up with my Budies and fly up to Anaheim Stadium for the game. The Angels need this win. If we can win tonight I will be feeling pretty good about are chances.
This Morning I was trying to get World Series tic's. All I could get were 2 for game 7. It might be a long shot. But if it happens it will be a great game.It only cost me 316 bucks for a pair of obstructed view field box. And that's face value. Go ANGELS!!!

Re: MLB playoffs.
both divisional series r winding up being pretty pathetic. I thought the Angels would do better and I can't believe all of these injuries absolutely destroying the Cardinals.

Re: MLB playoffs.
I think the Stros will pull one out in the next 2...with Oswalt and Clemens slated to pitch.

Re: MLB playoffs.
Yea I hope the Cards can pull it out too. It will be tough. But it sucks to be Astros fan if they do.Trust me I know from experience! The 86' Angels still bug me.
