Ian Rapoport
Verified account @RapSheet #Redskins asked for permission to speak with #Panthers assistant HC & DBs coach Steve Wilks for their DC job, source said. CAR granted it

Might also be the Rooney rule, but Wilks seems to be well liked and really helped to shape Josh Norman, so who knows?

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Honestly it cant be any worse.. Joe Barry just isn't cut out for that role, even in his pressers he sounded like he didn't have the IT factor.. Glad REX said no, hopefully it's going to be Gus's job

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Too bad Gregg Williams couldn't come back as DC. He would the best choice to me. Everywhere he went, he had a good defense. Very aggressive and very creative.
Only bad thing with the Rams defense that Williams had trouble with - was they had issues with the Cowboys and Redskins o lines, led by Callaghan. |

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Saw where Guenther(spelling?) From the Bengals was denied an interview with the Redskins for DC??
Experts on here tell me something: What would stop a guy from just quitting the team to sign on wherever they were offered the job? Is it just NFL etiquette? or could the bengals sue him or something.....

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
No you can't just quit your way out of a contract and then sign on with someone else.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
So you can't as in it's ethically wrong, or you can't because the new team under NFL rules would not be allowed to hire you, even if you quit your old team

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Quitting would be breach of contract. You could quit, purposely breach the contract, not get paid and open yourself up to a lawsuit. But the contract, even if you breach it, gives the rights to your labor to the Bengals and the Bengals only. So nobody can hire you.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Sure he could quit, but he's under contract through 2017 with the Bengals, so unless they let him out of it, and why would they, he couldn't sign with someone else.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
I went with Wade because he is the most proven. I would invite the Bradley or the Wilkes hire as well. Getting rid of Barry early puts us in a good position with several nice coordinator choices. I feel like manusky is the fall back guy, I don't see him as the front runner.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
I'd be happy with Wade, Bradley, or GW. I'd be happiest with Wade.
If Gruden chooses Manusky, I will be highly skeptical and will be looking for him to be right on that hire or else Gruden belongs out on his ass. Head coach is not just about scheme, and coaching. You have to be a CEO capable of hiring the right talent. He's gotta hit on this hire. Which makes it all the more unfathomable for him to pass up Wade if he can get him. Strongest resume by far.
