Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

Guys, did you listen at Cooley & Kevin's show from yesterday morning, just a few hours before the firing?

Cooley and Kevin | ESPN 980

I'm amazed by how accurate they are. Cooley has some pretty deep sources, and insights!

They were saying it's not only a DC problem (in fact Cooley says we can do better at DC but Barry's scheme isn't the main problem) but also a defensive staff issue, because, among others things, DB coach let the DB room go completely dismantled, not coaching the guys into playing this defense as designed and as called.

And a few hours after the show, pretty much exactly what they said needed to happen happened. Just wow! They either are pretty close to the decision makers, or effin football wizards!

Keim said the other day he had heard a lot of complaints about Fewell (DB coach) from the organization and that he wasn't surprised Fewell was let go. I don't know the ins and out, but I think its interesting. We seemed to see a lot of secondary players not play as well as last year.

Yeah. Norman was the only one who seemed to be able to play at his close to best level. And he has a strong mind.
Something in the coaching didn't help these guys play at their best level.

Don't know what, because I wasn't mad at the effort. Missed tackles number way down, some stops being made despite the apparent lack of talent...

You know what? With a little bit more talent, and the right coaching, we might have a pretty good D next year... Wouldn't bet on it, but with what we are hearing it's far from impossible.
