I still think it's B.
Agreed.

What would you say the choice of the exclusive tag is telling us on the will of the team to keep or trade KC, as opposed to choosing the non-exclusive tag?

Right now, without a lot of time to think about it, I kind of see it as a sign they would want to negotiate a long term deal:

-they don't want him to approach and be approached by many teams and get crazy offers that turn his head upside down, they want him to be here, to still consider himself a Redskin (even if it's because he doesn't have a choice),

-maybe they also want to have the upper hand to work out a trade with the niners or another team, BUT had they trading KC as the first option in their mind, the non-exclusive tag would have been a better option, let KC work several teams, and statistically increase your chances one would actually want to give up 2 first rounders!

Any way we most probably won't know until July 15th if they played it perfectly or screwed it all the way.

Have a bad year or get hurt and you can kiss that money goodbye. Kirk set himself up by making them tag him again, but my guess is something gets worked out as long as the team can come up with a decent offer.
so you want to pay KC more than Aaron Rodgers ?

Assuming he plays on the tag this year, we already have paid him 44Million in guaranteed cash. At this point only Andrew Luck and Aaron Rodgers had more in their current contracts.

At some point it's about getting a deal in place and saying we have this position finished and done. You can't give him less, it just doesn't work that way with the timing of his rookie contract and the franchise tag policy in place.

Ideally he would take a long term pay that recognizes he's already locked in a tremendous amount of cash, but he is treating it like a business and he is crushing it.

The team wants him back!!!! A deal will get done!!! A long term deal with enough guaranteed mullah to make Kirk happy. Can't tell me he really wants to be a 49er. Their line blows!!!!! Their ownership is even more retarded than ours!!!! HTTR!!!!!

Yes! Rodgers will probably get $35m a year when it's his turn.

I’m thrilled about this move. We know we have Kirk for at least one more year. I lot can happen in a year. Winning changes everything. Now if we can keep either Jackson or Garcon, and Doctson makes it onto the field and contributes. We fix some holes in the defense, and the new defensive coordinator is more aggressive. That should put us in a position to do better than we did last season. And hell I didn’t even mention Jordan Reed. He’s the fu-#%$-en man. I’m excited.

I think the exclusive tag was all about the team trying to keep leverage. Allowing him to talk to teams would likely only drive up the price.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread

I don't necessarily believe a word Bruce Allen says, but if he happens to be telling the truth that the Redskins have no plans whatsoever in trading Kirk Cousins, then the exclusive tag just reassures us that he's a Redskin for 2017. After that? Who knows?

What I'm hoping for is some sort of deal where the brunt of the money happens toward the tail end of the contract so that we're able to get some defensive guys signed and at least Garcon or Jackson.

Right, what little leverage they have. Yesterday's news doesn't really change much in my opinion. Slightly reduces chance he gets traded but I still think that's most likely.

As far as a transition tag next year, highly doubtful

I highly question you on the trading being likely. Just doesn't make sense unless they get swept off their feet by an offer they can't refuse. I don't think any of us believe that's coming.

It's a stare down till July 15, at which point they'll meet somewhere in the middle. Probably closer to Cousins' number than the Redskins number. But they're going to come up on their offers.

The leaks to the media about Cousins wanting to play elsewhere are just too conveniently timed. I never question what you're hearing, I just question the motive for why we're hearing it.

Well, if you have no intention of signing him to a long term deal then you need to take whatever you can get because you'll end up losing him for nothing come next year. At this point KC has all the leverage really, and I doubt he signs anything less than 22-24mil/year.

I would agree, that is about the number I think they're headed to. On July 15 the cards will go on the table and they'll show pocket aces for Kirk and 7 2 unsuited for the Skins. They'll come up and it will get signed.

Smoot we all value your input, and I hesitate to ask to much because it must get annoying, but (always ignore everything before the but...) If the holdup really is in the Skins high front office, how much influence or job cred do SM and JG have to use up to get a deal pushed through. Asked another way, do you have any idea how dug in are DSBA against a long term deal?

Thanks as always for your insight.

I don't honestly know. I just know that they (Skins and Cousins) are far apart and the Redskins have not been slowly moving their number up. Now, of course, push is coming to shove so that may accelerate things
