In 1989 my fiance at the time ( we didnt end up getting married though) and I were walking thru the streets of Philadelphia. She was going to Princeton and she was black. I am a white guy, who grew up in oxon hill md. She got the rudest vilest comments from the black men calling her race traitor, oreo and worse. I dont condone anyone who makes degrading or bs remarks based on race, from any perspective.

I had the same thing happen dating a Mexican girl as a white guy in the early 80's. They would say things about her in Spanish. The idiots thought she would understand them and I wouldn't. The opposite was true, her family had been in the USA for multiple generations, her parents or siblings did not speak Spanish either. Having 4 years of Spanish between high school and college I had no problem understanding them. They were pretty shocked when I would say something nasty back at them in their native language.

Trump goofed up the attack, referring to Conor Lamb as “Connor Lamm” as he pitched Republican candidate Sean Parnell in the election for Lamb’s Pennsylvania seat.

Trump appeared to be unaware that Lamb, far from being Pelosi’s “puppet,” was one of only 15 Democrats in the House who did not vote for her to become speaker in 2017.

Lamb won his seat in March 2018 in a contest with Republican Rick Saccone, who was endorsed by Trump. It was a stunning Democratic upset in a longtime Republican district that faced the special election after Republican Rep. Tim Murphy resigned over an extramarital affair.

The executive order that Trump signed Thursday seeks to strip liability protection in certain cases for companies like Twitter, Google and Facebook for the content on their sites, meaning they could face legal jeopardy if they allowed false and defamatory posts. Without a liability shield, they presumably would have to be more aggressive about policing messages that press the boundaries — like the president’s.

That, of course, is not the outcome Trump wants. What he wants is to have the freedom to post anything he likes without the companies applying any judgment to his messages, as Twitter did this week when it began appending “get the facts” warnings to some of his false posts on voter fraud. Furious at what he called “censorship” — even though his messages were not in fact deleted — Trump is wielding the proposed executive order like a club to compel the company to back down.

It may not work even as intended. Plenty of lawyers quickly said Thursday that he was claiming power to do something he does not have the power to do by essentially revising the interpretation of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, the main law passed by Congress in 1996 to lay out the rules of the road for online media. Legal experts predicted such a move would be challenged and most likely struck down by the courts.

But the logic of Trump’s order is intriguing because it attacks the very legal provision that has allowed him such latitude to publish with impunity a whole host of inflammatory, harassing and factually distorted messages that a media provider might feel compelled to take down if it were forced into the role of a publisher that faced the risk of legal liability rather than a distributor that does not.

“Ironically, Donald Trump is a big beneficiary of Section 230,” said Kate Ruane, a senior legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union, which instantly objected to the proposed order. “If platforms were not immune under the law, then they would not risk the legal liability that could come with hosting Donald Trump’s lies, defamation and threats.”

Trump has long posted false and disparaging messages to his 80 million followers on Twitter, disregarding complaints about their accuracy or fairness. In recent weeks, he has repeatedly issued tweets that essentially falsely accused Joe Scarborough, the MSNBC host, of murdering a staff member in 2001 when he was a congressman. Scarborough was 800 miles away at the time, and the police found no signs of foul play. The aide’s widower asked Twitter to delete the messages, but it refused.

Trump and his allies argue that social media companies have shown bias against conservatives and need to be reined in. While they are private firms rather than the government, the president and his allies argue that they have in effect become the public square envisioned by the founders when they drafted the First Amendment and therefore should not be weighing in on one side or the other.

97 million people is almost a third of what the US has. Sure, not the same, but Vietnam isn't some small country.

How about this? The country with the 2nd most confirmed cases is Brazil, with 465k confirmed. The #1 country? The US, with 1.7 million confirmed cases.

How about top 5 countries by population?

1. China: 1.4 billion people, 84k confirmed cases, ranked #16 (I'll even grant you that number is horseshit because China has state-run media).
2. India: 1.3 billion people, 181k confirmed cases, ranked #9
3. United States: 327 million people, 1.7 mil confirmed cases, easily ranked #1 with almost 3.5 times the amount of cases as #2
4. Indonesia, 267 million people, 25k confirmed cases, ranked #33
5. Pakistan, 212 million people, 66k confirmed cases, ranked #18

How many of those other countries have an entire political party convinced the 'rona is nothing major, led by a President who didn't take it seriously for 2 months?

You laugh off Vietnam as a joke because 97 million people couldn't possibly compare to 327 million, but you know what the difference is? They were aggressive in January, banning flights from Wuhan first, doing aggressive contact tracing and isolating anyone connected. And their people didn't try and fight it either, they trusted the doctors and science and quarantined themselves until they knew it was safe.

A smart population, led by smart government who deferred to the experts from the start = 0 deaths, out of 97 million people. We'll be lucky if COVID is done by next year. Too many idiots demanding the public be reopened while we haven't even contained it yet.

P.S. I agree with Killer Mike, but let's not pretend you'd be shitting on him too if he was up there saying "hey guys, it's ok to have an issue with CNN being biased, but let's not damage their property ok?"
