Just because rocnrik has your panties in a bunch doesn't mean their isn't validation to the argument that Flacco's contract has hurt the Ravens.

The reason those articles you posted were written is because everyone keeps pointing out here in B-more how bad the ROI is on his contract.

If you disagree so be it.

Sorry, it just hasn’t been the main factor. Believing so is very short sighted. They’ve been able to make plenty of moves, they just haven’t drafted well as of late and injuries have hurt them.

Dude, he is the largest cap hit this season and is ranked 30th among-est QBs, that is a major factor. I definitely would not want the Skins to be in that position down the road with KC.

On a positive note our boy KC is shiny and bright at #5 on the stats and 3rd biggest cap hit. Decent ROI.

I wore panties once. In college, in the middle of hooking up with a chick and she just stopped and said we are not going any farther unless i put on her panties. Needless to say, I didnt hesitate.

re ravens - they have huge dead money issues but that didnt stop them from signing Weedle, Tony Jefferson, re-sign brandon williams .. of course they had to let osmele go.

Also ozzie has drafted horribly. i cant think of a single 1 or 2nd rounder that is contributing.

Any guy would do that! Very few would share the story. =)

We seem to be talking about two different things. Is Flacco worth the money right now given how poorly he’s playing? Hell no.

Is his contract the reason they’re not competitive? No. Has his contract severely restricted the teams’ ability to make moves? Another hell no.

I disagree with you and you may very well be right. From my perspective and a lot folks here in B-more those questions would be answered with yes.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

Flacco's contract is not helping. Matty I wholeheartedly agree with you that it is not preventing them from being good. If you're going to carry a very heavy QB contract, it means you've got to draft well to make up for it. If you don't draft well, you're left with little cap space to make up for it.

Drafting well is job 1, but if you fail at it you'd like to have cap space to try to make up for it. It's simple risk management.

Overpaying a QB like Flacco removes your margin for error. You either draft well during the heavy QB contract, or you are stuck with sucking. You have no recourse.

That Ravens situation still shouldn't be applied to the Redskins and Cousins blindly though, simply because I think Cousins is better than Flacco. But signing Cousins to a highest-paid-player type contract is akin to pushing all your chips to the center of the table. You're saying I'm going to draft well for the next 5 years to keep my roster stocked and support my QB who needs the support, and if I don't, then we suck.

Teams with QBs like Brady, Rodgers and Wentz don't have to think that way. If they miss on some picks in the draft, their QB can still pull a rabbit out of a hat.

I still can't make up my mind on Cousins. No matter what you're pushing a boulder up a hill. Let him go and you start the process to find a new QB, which can take 20 years. Keep him, and you start the process of being perfect in the draft for the next 5 years. Hard choice.

While it currently seems like Balt is over-paying Flacco, they had no choice but to sign him coming off his perfect Super Bowl run. Had they let him walk Raven fans would have gone berserk. Timing is everything and Flacco timed his big performance to perfection. Flacco is the easy scapegoat for Balt's problems when its not all his fault.

While I don't think Flacco's contract has caused Balt's problems, I do know that football is a dependent game where every player is dependent on the other players for success and no position is more dependent that the QB. Right now the players Flacco is dependent on aren't producing and as a result he looks worse than he really is.

Certainly fair. Also explains why Cousins shows as one of the top 5 rated passers yet the eye test says he's not. Cousins is surrounded by an offensive line that can turn screen passes to Chris Thompson from 8 yard plays into 80 yard plays.

Flacco and Cousins have one thing in common - they're not going to elevate the play of those around them. Committing them means you need to create the near perfect surrounding cast or you're going to bump your head on 10-6.

I think we're saying the same thing just differently.

I think we are too.

Cousins is never going to be Brady or Rogers but those guys don't come along often. I do think KC is as good as or better than Flacco, Brees or Wilson and those guys have all won SBs. The Skins can win a SB with KC but I agree that he will need a very good supporting cast to do it.
