"You Know Football Is Back When Vontaze Burfict Is Facing A Huge Suspension For A Dirty Hit"

Just a great headline.

Re: Skins v Bengals week 3 preseason thread

A couple things that stood out to me yesterday:

Positives:

1. The running game finally looked good. Fat Rob looked good.
2. The defense looks to be better. ILB and Safety standout as better. D-Line
3. Luavo got a big push for the rushing TD. Oline looked better.

Negative:

1. WR and Cousins still feeling it out. Doctson away isn't gonna help either, he needs to be ready. Lot of drops yesterday
2. I know its only preseason, but some of the offense playcalling when we cross their 50 gets strange. Quick outs, same consecutive run plays...this is on my radar now for the season.
3. 4 wins.

Admittedly off topic for the thread, but I love what the article says about Mara: deadspin-quote-carrot-aligned-w-bgr-2<\/title><\/svg>')}.f_branding_on.blog-group-deadspin .editor-inner.post-content .pu

Re: Skins v Bengals week 3 preseason thread

It's just hard to judge the offense when they're showing so little. But I'm a little concerned about the wr's. Docston would have played had it been a regular season game. But really how many games can we count on him to play? What's his over/under? 10? I'm starting to get the feeling that it's always going to be something with him. Same with Reed and we're counting on both. Pryor looked like he has a long way to go.

Also the o-line is losing too many one on one matchups. That has nothing to do with scheme. That's just getting beat by the guy across from you.

Not going to freak out about Cousins quite yet. He's put two solid seasons on tape.

Re: Skins v Bengals week 3 preseason thread

I liked that they put a drive together of mainly runs and scored on it. If nothing else maybe opposing D's won't 100% disregard our run game. Also had a lot of 1st down runs for positive gain. Good things.

Still it's preseason, and in the end, what matters is they are ready for the 1st game. My guess is that they will still take 2 regular games, but this is the first preseason under Gruden that felt like he cared about the games enough to push the players who took it lightly.

Finally, I think TW definitely took the preseason lightly, won't be the case once the games count.

Agreed, he wasn't playing 100% at all. That's fine, he'll be ready. But at the same time you'd like your best player to be a leader by example and pull his unit up !

Side note watching the 2nd half right now: Moreau, Nicholson and Holsey looking good... and Galette is out there! Good to see him healthy.

I admit, on TW, I wonder (thinking too much as Scheed would point out) if the fact that KC didn't sign a long term deal affected him. I think he has always been an emotional player, I think of RG3's first year when TW would have cleared blocks 10 yards down the field for him, and then later when he didn't even pick him up off the ground. Not that TW would let KC get hurt on purpose, but I remember reading comments that TW was not happy KC wouldn't commit.

Re: Skins v Bengals week 3 preseason thread

Maybe Jay is taking the Joe Gibbs approach to the preseason. Keep the offense vanilla and try to work on plays that are more designed to be successful depending on the physicality of the players executing those plays. Where as, the real bread and butter, chain moving, explosive plays will be unveiled in week one?

Otherwise, I have been very unimpressed with the starters in preseason - on both sides of the ball!

The key for me has been no major injuries. Fingers crossed on Phil Taylor.

agreed, commentators even noted that we should have all our starters week one. and I think they got good reps in this preseason.

Preseason is such fool's gold. Little to no game planning, play calling is vanilla, effort is definitely questionable at times, small sample sizes, etc.

Stay medium folks.

Right. Simply put, you're not going to have your stars making any great efforts out of fear of getting hurt. Look like Julian Edelman for instance. Out for the season with an ACL. There's been others lost for the season. We need these guys healthy and 100% by game one.

We found some late round gems it appears, in Chase and Holsey. That's how you build a team quickly. Oline in general better take these next couple weeks seriously in practice. Its go time!!

Cousins needs to get his swagger back. Grab Dan Snyders head and rub the shit out of it.

Sometimes I wish KC would just go back to playing like he did when he first got here, minus the turnovers of course...lol. He had that gunslinger in him, no fear. He had that against Green Bay. I wish we'd see more of that. I think the pressure of playing to that contract has made him a little gun shy at times. He's too quick to get the ball out of his hands instead of letting things develop down field. I guess that's the one critique I have of him.

But I also think the fans need to relax a bit and not judge every single bad throw the guy has.
