Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Next time he throws for 300 yards and 3 TDs I'll definitely be sure to rev up the show him the money train lol
If you looked closely enough at Stafford there were plenty of reasons to justify not paying him too, but in the end if you have a good QB you have to pay him, there's this fallacy that only the top few guys should get paid, it just doesn't work that way anymore |

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Just finished watching the game.
Everything has been said here. I'll just add our defense could look really solid if they simply improve their tackling: how many sacks would we have had, had they just wrapped Wentz up ? I really think Manusky is bringing a new philosophy to this D, guys like Preston Smith, Breeland, Fuller and even Kerrigan are already showing better versions of themselves. Playcalling also looks better, more pressure, and creative blitzes. Even McGee showed up in this game. Now offense needs to step it up.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
I've already resigned myself to this being a terrible football season and it's already looking that way. ECU Pirates suck balls. Two starters on FF are out for year in first week. Redskins offense looks like pure trash. Not expecting much really.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Re lack of running game, 1st question to Gruden from his presser yesterday asked why only 13 runs, did the gameplan get away from him a little bit.
Gruden - "Couple other runs called that we threw quick passes on, we'll get that cleaned up a little bit .." Jay Gruden's press conference at Redskins Park | WJLA Ive heard this from Gruden before, run call gets changed to a quick pass. I can only assume that Cousins gets discretion to change a run to a pass play based on the pre snap coverage he sees.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
NEVER EVER should we have let BOTH Starting WR's go at same time..BAD BAD Move. one or the other but not both in same off season. If Cousins has a average year let him test the open market ..nobody will pay him top money! I really like what we have done on defense but why in the world did we go backwards on the offense?? Its the same old crap with this team..has anybody done the math of what we could have kept at least one of those Wideouts vs what we had to pay Pryor? We have what looks to me as a project in Doctson..Reed stays hurt, what was a strength in the Oline now looks shaky. Its a house of cards waiting to fall..I can't believe folks would think this team could win 10 games. we may very well go 0-4 and then the house starts to crumble..I hope not but Thats what i believe will happen.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
I think Cousins and the whole Offense struggling all season is a real possibility, but I find it much more likely that they get their s together after a slow start and play to the level that they did last year. The Oline is playing uncharacteristicly bad, and Cousins was off throwing to everyone and he and Crowder and Reed will get on the same page again quickly. Pryor is less likely I suppose, but I think the chances are he improves after some time with Cousins. If we go 0-4 I'll start to buy that losing Garçon and Jackson was the difference of being a good offense or not. It certainly would be surprising to me if their contributions were greater than that of the oline and Cousins last year. Cousins did spread the ball out well, and won some games by shear will. The running game is unlikely to improve though, but I'd like to see Perine handed the ball on that 2nd and 6 in the Redzone before the INT, he scored a lot in that distance. That alone would go a long way toward fixing our biggest problem on Offense. Anyways, Cousins will most probably have similar stats to the past couple of years and play his way back into the playoff race, but this time around if he can't sustain it when the season is on the line, then yeah, let him test the market, but he's likely to get paid somewhere. But until then, I'm going to try to enjoy the ride. I think it is pretty reasonable to expect the new receivers and Cousins to struggle at first as they get used to each other, and hopefully the Offense picks up where it left off last year, the D continues to improve, and Cousins finally gets over whatever is holding him back.
