5 must have CDs

[SUNRA]

Well let me refer to my voluminous memory bank to recall what albums stand out the most in my mind:

1. Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers- Greastest Hits (Go-Go music is still my inspiration and Chuck Brown belongs in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame).

2.Donny Hathaway-A Song For You

3.Marvin Gaye-What's Going On

4.Stevie Wonder- Songs in the Key of Life

5.Karen Clark Sheard-A Balm in Gilead

[Bushead]

Sunra and I should jam out one day

1. Stevie wonder- Anything and everything
2. Earth, Wind, and Fire - Essiential album
3 Frank Sinatra - Greatest Hits
4.Joni Mitchell- Blue
5. Marvin Gaye- Greatest motown hits

I never really looked into Donny Hathaway stuff; I only know him from Roberta Flack Duets.

You know Bushead my girlfriend bought a copy of Donny Hathaway Live. Like you, I was only aware of his duets with Roberta Flack. But when I listened to this man pour his heart and soul out on this album in front of a intimate audience I was convinced that many of the singers like George Benson, Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder were inspired by his delivery and musicianship. With that said, go get that CD "Donny Hathaway Live."

Note: Donny Hathaway was a graduate of Howard University, where he met Roberta Flack. Donny was a student of Classical music as well as Country music because of the stories it told. He wrote so many scores for movie soundtracks in the seventies and was on the verge of becoming an ultimate composer of his own symphony. He truly was blessed with the ability to bring true R & B to the mainstream yet his life like so many brilliant artist came to end when he committed suicide in a NY Hotel. Dealing with lifes up and downs took it's toll on him mentally. He was committed to a mental hospital several times. I'm glad that his widow and daughter Lalah Hathaway allowed his CD to be released.
