Title of the thread is incorrect and needs to be changed. O'Connell was not promoted to offensive coordinator, he is now the QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator. Matt Cavanaugh is still the offensive coordinator.

Just sounds like a bunch of nonsense w/ the shifting of titles. Hopefully our new passing game coordinator will design pass plays that have the wr run past the fucking marker on 3rd down. Gruden's offense specializes in running 6 yard routes on 3rd and 8.

Yes. Basically, Chip Kelly came after O'Connell to get him to come to UCLA and be the OC there, so Gruden said hey I'll pay you more, don't go. And he stayed.

Then Redskins HR, like any HR department will do, said OK well we can't just pay him more without a change in responsibilities, and Gruden said fuck I don't know, add passing game coordinator in there. And they said OK and approved the increase.

Seems silly to think an NFL head coach has to jump through those hoops but they do.

I have honestly never heard of "passing game coordinator" in my entire life, lol! But, I'm applying for a job as assistant fumble recovery coach. Wish me luck!

I think a lot of that is because of an inconsistent running game and the lack of a good short yardage back that can get a yard or two whether you block for him or not. How many times do the Redskins either get stuffed running on 3rd and short or throw incomplete? That is a situation where most teams will just run and convert them 85% of the time.
