I just can't wrap my head around someone paying Cousins near 30 million. He is just not worth it. When are these salaries for the QB's going flatline?

When the cap stops going up.

It’s all relative to the cap, % wise things really haven’t changed much.

Zero chance Kirk's deal doesn't exceed JG's.

I tend to disagree. I think JG is all upside and potential, and they had to sign him now. KC has a track record that places him in a certain pecking order, and no team is forced to sign him, there are other options.

I will be interested to see where his number comes down, and I would not be shocked to see him wait until after the draft to sign.

I feel like you're forgetting supply and demand. There aren't enough good qb's to go around, and Kirk is a good qb. All it takes is one.

I have to agree with Matty on this. NO chance in hell he doesn't exceed JG's contract.

Aren't you the same guy that said JG would only get $20 mil a year? I don't know why you don't realize JG has started his career like no other and the sky is the limit. While at the same time Kirk has limitations and will never sniff elite (top 5) status. Kirk is no bum, but he is fringe top 10 and will rise no higher.

I thought JG’s ceiling was Carr’s number to be honest... but I’m not overly surprised. Just like it won’t be a surprise when Kirk tops it. I think it’s a bit silly to say Kirk can’t continue to improve his game.

I want to believe that too, but just the fact that he had to go through "star trek vulcan mind tricks" to the tune that he has to structure every moment of his life in order to not be raddled come game time, makes me wonder. That's a little bizarre to me. I admit I don't know all the details about this discipline of his, but I don't think all the other QBs in the league have to do this in order to perform at the highest level.

Seems a bit strange to me too, that someone would plan each day out to the minutes. That would drain the crap out of me. Kirk just seems like an uptight, overly structured human being. IDK, I just prefer someone like a Russell Wilson, Watson or Wentz type of QB, where they aren't so scripted and can make big plays and break a defense down on their own. I sorta feel like Gruden wants a guy like that too and is why they got Smith.

Yeah you guys are losing the forest for the trees, it’s going to be a straight up bidding war for Kirk. Remember, skill or potential doesn’t drive the market, leverage does.

There is the small chance that Kirk takes slightly less money to be on a talented winning team or a team that is a QB away from being great. But does not have a Ton of cap space. Denver?

I would say that if Denver has to clear the space for Kirk, they will be neither talented nor particularly winning.

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0

This is an odd year for Qb's. You have probably 3 or 4 similar guys available either as FA or through trades that are NFL quality but not elite.

For example If Denver could get Foles for their 2nd and a player like they tried for AS, that would be preferable for their salary cap then KC and cutting players. Case Keenum likewise fits AR as well as KC but at half the cost.

KC exaggerated his value with two FT in a row and showed himself likely to be difficult to negotiate with. Teams will look at all of that. Then teams still have several quality options in the draft.

Bottom line Kirks number is closer to AS worth than an elite top level QB, and teams have more options than might be normally available.

KC is going to get paid. Sorry but he’s not getting Alex Smith money. He’s set to be the top free agent period and will have multiple teams after him.
