Re: Around the NFL Off season thread 1.0

So, from what I've read, the Eagles are around $9M over the salary cap and have a decision to make regarding Nick Foles. I was jawing with some Eagles fans the other day, and they think that the Eagles will restructure Foles' contract to keep him. I questioned this logic. First of all, not only did he win you a Super Bowl, but he was the MVP of the Super Bowl. Why, on earth, would he be OK heading back to the bench for less money, when he could be starting for another team making a lot more money. And, why on earth would the Eagles be OK with keeping Foles through the 2018 season, paying his contract, and then letting him walk for nothing when his contract is void at the end of the season?

I brought up the Eagles, because I think they're going to need to cut some players to get under the cap, and maybe we can steal some of their better players.

Jimmy G made an immediate impact. Heck even RGIII made an immediate positive impact. Cousins would have needed some elite players stay healthy to help him win and a shut down defence too.

I do not mind game manager qbs as long as they are getting paid for that.

Cousins does not have the potential that JG does.

Of course Jimmy G has more potential than Kirk, mainly because he hasn't done shit yet. In fact, Jimmy G. is all potential - and at a mere $27.5M per season. I love it when other FO's take inadvisable risks.

That's a lot of money but JG is still pretty young, he won all his starts. I can't name any of his WR's. He showed them enough obviously.

49ers are fucking idiots. In no way did Jimmy G have any leverage to be paid the highest of anybody in the NFL. You don't pay a guy with a handful of games 27mil/yr. Sure he might become a hall of famer, but that is besides the point. His ceiling is higher than Kirk's is, but Kirk is much more proven. Expect Kirk to hit the 28-30mil/yr if Jimmy G is worth 27.

They drank the Kool Aid, Lynch is a rookie GM, he will pay for this one.. I'm sure SFREDSKINS will be here soon to say SF is going to the SB now

This is where I disagree. Lynch is a borderline HOF player and Kyle is as good as anyone in the NFL running an offense. They saw enough both in the games he started for them, but also in practice and picking up the system, leadership and so on. On top of all that he did have a couple games w/ NE. It's a lot of money but if you like the QB that's in your building then why mess around? The system isn't perfect, SF may have overpaid a bit but they got their guy locked up.

I agree, there is no way a QB with 7 starts deserves to be the highest paid player in the NFL.....2017 stats 7 TDs - 5 Int.

Yup that is the number they were throwing out there with 100 million guaranteed. They wouldn't even mention Drew Brees or Arron Rodgers which they said could make it go "significantly higher".

Did the 49ers really have a choice? They weren’t going down the road the Skins just went down by playing the tag game. They had to pony up, this is how it works.
