Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018

It might coincidentally shake out that when we are on the clock at #13 CB, Safety and Dline will be BPA.. That is not a bad thing since slot CB and LG are two greatest needs.
The holes at slot CB and LG need to be addressed with strong talent or it will be a long season.

If the BPA that fills a need had a 2nd or 3rd grade then trade back

I wouldn't draft another DE or OLB or even ILB high this year.

If the Skins decide not to go NT then trade back last first early 2nd and then go RB G CB if that is how they grade out.

Our front 7 was gashed last year.

In fact, we were 29th in DVOA against the run: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef

There were only 3 teams worse than us.

We need top shelf talent at all positions in our front 7.

The Skins suffered after injuries before that D was coming on. A guy like Payne and the defense is almost elite.

You said a little more than that.

You persist in seeing the glass as half empty. I choose to be more positive and to see it as half full. We have a number of good young players who are only going to get better. Yes, we need more good players, but no team has all the depth they would like to have.

Also, and I feel really weird saying this, I think the FO is going about things the right way nowadays. I think we can become contenders soon. I don't feel like going through position by position and player by player opinions right now but suffice it to say that I have a much higher opinion and belief in a number of the players you mentioned than you do.

We're not yet done in FA and I expect that we'll have a good draft, so there's no telling how much we can upgrade our talent at this point. I'm hoping for the most possible off-season success.

If they sign Hankins they may go all depth.

As many holes as we have in our starting lineup, need and BPA will easily intersect at #13.
Plus throw in all of the QB desperate teams that WILL reach for a player that is not worthy. Plus we already have our QB.
The stars are aligning that at #13 there will be higher BPA value, not lower as you claim.

I try to stay level-headed in the off season and not get my hopes up but I'd reallllllllly like to see us nab Hankins.

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018

If there is a game changing player at any position available at 13, I think you take him regardless of position.

If not, BPA weighted for need, but we have needs at every position.

I disagree with your very last statement.
In the first round, I'd be mad if we drafted: a QB (obviously), an OL other than a guard, an ILB, and even a WR.

LG, DT and RB, in that order, are our most urgent needs.

I guess I'd be OK with an incredible all around run blocking and pass catching machine TE, but this is not what I'm hoping for.

I agree we are strongest at QB and tackle but we are far from set at center. Chase was ok at center last year as a stop gap but was he good? Who is his back up? If there is a first round talent, BPA type player there at center or guard, I wouldn't mind the pick. I prefer DL but if the scouts say otherwise (character, work ethic, all the intangibles the ESPN draft guys don't account for) I'm fine with it.

Same goes for ILB.

Our ILBs at the end of the season were Spaight and Vigil. Many look at ILB as a rotational position, including our staff. I don't think we are set at that position group either.
