I'm curious to see how things play out with Sua. If he stayed where would he best fit? Is he too slow for slot? Does he replace ZB on passing downs? If he's committed he could definitely help this defense, but if somehow they get a 3rd for him that will definitely help. We may even be able to fill the home in the secondary.

I think Gruden’s comments on Montae Nicholson at the combine speak volumes. He called him the Jordan Reed of the defense, the guy whose range and athleticism changes what you can do schematically on defense.

I think they see him as not only their starter at FS, but a potential game changer. I think they have no plans whatsoever to pay for a starting caliber safety.

And I agree with it, personally. After the Raiders and Chiefs games last year I was on here saying he’s the best FS we’ve had since Sean. He covers ground, and it frees up DJ to attack.

The team would be wise to shore up depth. I’m not satisfied with Everett as the backup and I still assume Cravens will be dealt. But I don’t think we need a starter I think Montae is our future and so do they.

I agree with all that, but:

1. We have 2 big ?s at slot and outside corner. Yes we have Moreau, Dunbar, Holsey, and Sua but not one of them has shown starter ability consistently.

2. Nicholson, Swearinger, and Norman are a strong starting group, but what are the chances that all 3 stay healthy all year?

IDK bout anyone else, but to me this is an area that I think we need another viable starter or it could become one of our weaker units quickly. Another starter and it's a strength with Tashkent developing. I'm not sure either DRC or OS are more than serviceable veteran depth and leadership. I think if they come in we'll potentially see them help early as rotational vets but struggle when asked to play more snaps due to injuries and the young guys being forced to take a large volume of snaps before they're ready. Another strong starter would likely lead to a smoother transition.

Well Moreau hasn't really played yet, Norman and Swearinger were healthy for the majority of the season last year. I feel we will sign DRC, getting Allen and Ionnadis healthy will help the secondary as well.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Agreed.
Moreau was a rookie, can't expect him to show consistent starter play in his first season.
I like the fact that they have confidence in him. He's a 2 round pick.
I would have kept Breeland especially at 8M/y (and maybe his infection ends up making him sign here for a lot less), but Moreau was drafted to start.

Except a veteran on a cheap deal, I wouldn't sign any DBs. We have a strong group.

And a healthy DL, improved by either a signing or a pick, will help our D overall.

Any thoughts on a guard we could sign?

Based on Redskins's activities; my best guess is they are monitoring Lauvao's situation, potential cuts by other teams and draft. I don't expect us to sign best available guard in free agency. In the end, I think they will resign Lauvao to 1-2 years contract and draft a guard (any round) to compete in training camp.

I like the idea of drafting a guard. I feel it's a position you can expect decent play from year one.
