Sean Taylor doesn't want to be a skin? WTF?

"6. I think I'm hearing ominous signs out of Washington that first-round pick Sean Taylor does not want to be a Redskin. But I wouldn't expect Joe Gibbs to be too worried. He'll figure this one out."

Peter King, MMQB

What is this founded on? Joe Crisp, have you heard anything to back this up?

I was just going to post the same thing. Peter King is well respected in his line of work and unlike Lenny Pasta has seemed to have shown an even hand when judging the Redskins. This thing is concerning if for no other reason then that it has to have some foundation for a writer like King to place it in his column.

That said, he seemed to difuse the subject with the opinion that Gibbs will figure this one out.

Tho, if Sean is not giving the impression to media types that he is happy in DC, thats immature to say the least and disconcerning to say the most.

As always in Redskin Land, the plot thickens.

I'm gonna be pissed if KWII signs faster than Taylor. Do we know who his new agent(s) is/are yet?

Any idea what or where this is from? I just tried King's espn.com stuff and have found nothing.

King is on Sports Illustrated's site. I wouldn't put too much credence in this statement. He just likes writing, so he'll write nearly anything. Here are some more tidbits from the same column.

8. I think Jim Haslett can sleep easy these days, because he loves defensive linemen, especially ones who can dominate in a rotation. After adding Ohio State DE Will Smith in the first round he now has seven of them who could start for virtually any team in the league.

Huh? He has collapsed in December the past three years, but he's seven deep at a two player position, so everything's OK?

10. I think, eight months from now, we'll see a Seattle-Jacksonville Super Bowl. Unless John Fox interferes.

Jacksonville? I don't know where to start with this one. When I think great coaching minds, I think Jack Del Rio - as soon as he keeps his players from cutting off their feet in the clubhouse.

I don't buy it.. If that was the case, why did he come to the press conference, minicamp and been talking up how happy he is to Portis? I think this is probably agents trying to get him to sign up and whomever he's scorned (Rosenhaus, maybe the Postons if he picks Eugene Parker) trying to smear his name.. Peter King's information is usually shady at best.. He's going to be in a top 15 defense, featuring him, with a defensive coordinator who will probably put him in a position to be defensive rookie of the year.. Yeah, he doesn't want to be a Redskin.

It is amazing to me that some of you nimwits think you know more about the pulse of the NFL then Peter King.

The man makes a living writing these columns and is profiled on HBO's Inside the NFL. And you Joe Potatohead from some beach town in Delaware know more about NFL football and/or Sean Taylor then he?!?

I mean, disagree if you want but to discredit his column like you know better then he... just who is the loser in that equation?!?

Watch the insults. This post was totally uncalled for and out of line with how we do things on the Warpath.

I'm not going to say that Peter King is just writing fluff but the fact is that, probably because of our desire to get information so fast thanks to new media such as the Internet, King puts out a lot of "rumors" many of which may not have much basis to them in the first place. But he has to write something. Wasn't it Peter King who said Joe Gibbs promised Kellen Winslow he'd be their pick?

He was also the guy who said that if anyone would hire Deion Sanders as a coach, it would be Dan Snyder.

That's a bit harsh Drkstar. If you want to defer and bow to the great Peter King, go ahead. I read his stuff on a regular basis and, while mostly informed, he will, on more than occasion, speculate and repeat rumour. Yes, he talks to folks on the inside, but that doesn't mean he always gets the facts right. If a rumour is interesting and backed by a decent source, he'll write it. I long ago learned that rumour ain't fact and until I hear it from the real source, Taylor, I think the statement is suspect.

Guess that makes me a nimwit.

By the way, I thought BrudLee's juxtaposition of other quotes from the same article was nothing more than a way for people who actually follow the game to see the speculative nature of the Taylor quote. If you think PK is inerrant, place your bet now on the Jacksonville - Seattle SB. Let me know how it works out for you.

I find it hard to believe that taylor doesn't want to be a skin, I saw interview's heading up to the draft, and he said he would love to be a skin, portis who is his friend, do think he would have kept telling all the coaches to draft Taylor if he didn't want to be here? I seriously doubt it! The player fired his agent, and it sound's like king is trying to out think the situation, with william's as a D-coordinator ready to put him in every possible position to become a star, and he doesn't want that, as well an opportunity to play for a hall of fame coach? I just don't see the validity to king's story.

We all saw what happened when I player doesnt want to play for a team, they speak out against that team. And we've all seen the Sean Taylor interviews. If Sean Taylor didnt want to be hear he would have said something already and not been excited to get to mini camp and have a great press conference. The fact that he even went to minicamp says a lot about him wanting to be here. Unless for some reason you think that by him going to camp it made him realize he didnt want to be a skin. Mabye JoeC can comment about that more, having seen him at camp. But it all seemed positive to me.

i hope this is all bs cuz the last thing this team needs is another contract problem with one of the keys to our defense's success.
