non HD tvs do not resolve HD signals. The HD signal is actually converted to a normal analog signal which cannot appear pixelated or digital in any way except....
If the station from which you receive a broadcast signal has technical difficulties and the signal the tv actually receive is actually corrupted then the converted analog signal will be an analog interpretation of a screwed up digital feed. You should not have noticed any difference in appearance between a normal game feed and the digital feed since your tv cannot even read it. I am thinking your mind and eyes are playing tricks on you.

I just got Comcast's HD/DVR Tuner, and my 32 inch Sony WEGA is HD-capable (i'm guessing), so I'm able to watch HD programming. It's a bit smaller, but the clarity is huge compared to the regular analog feed.

If you buy and HDTV be sure to get a glass tube one. I work for a media outlet here on Long Island and we have a full department of people that does nothing but study different makes of TV's. So I consulted them before I bought mine and they said hands down an old-fashioned glass tube HDTV produces the best picture and the LCD and plasma are way behind at this point, but they are still in their first generation. I bought a Sony 32in wega for $1,000 and it kicks ass. –Summo

I agree the old fashioned flat tubes still have the best overall quality, the big downside is they're heavy as tanks.

You can say that again, my tv is over 2ft deep and weighs over 200 pounds. When my basement was filling up with water I almost broke my back humping that thing up the stairs. But it doesn't make sense to me to spend all that money buying HD equipment and buy a pencil thin plasma or lcd when the picture quality is crap.

The big problem with non CRT Tvs is that they cannot truely display the color black. Since black is technically the lack of all light a CRT is able to easily display a true black while LCDs and plasmas have to combine colors to make it. Most blacks wash out which you wouldn't think is much of an issue except that defintion is made by blacks. The nest generation of lcds and plasma will be far greater.

Correct. They also suffer from smear. As most of you know the liquid in those TV’s is charged into the colors and shape of the picture it is displaying. Occasionally when you’re watching a sporting event and the camera moves quickly when following the action the charger and liquid can't keep up and the pictures smears. I recently read in an electronics magazine that unfortunately there won't be many more glass HDTV’s produced because no one is buying them anymore. It makes want to go out and buy another one right now just to have it in reserve incase anything happens to mine.

Honestly Though Is Hdtv That Much Better? I Have Direct Tv And Tivo, And A 60" Sony That Has Hdtv, But Im Afraid To Spend The Extra Money Upgrading My Tivo Unit To A Hdtv. But If You Guys Can Tell Me That Its Worth It. Ill Go Get One Right Now.

I got a Sony Wega, Direct Tv with the HDTIVO.... I promise u its that much better. For football U get HD for ESPN, FOX and ABC.

yeah...ESPN is not an HD channel but it was presenting the game in HD...I watched the games on CBS and FOX both were fine but ESPN was screwed up...i dont think it was my mind playin tricks on me

ESPN SD (standard definition) was not airing the game in HD. They probably had a message in A BIG FONT that said "Presented in HD", but below it in tiny font it probably said "Where Available".

Most of the stations do this now (i.e., show the "Presented in HD where available" message), and it's a little misleading. Perhaps they are using a single HD source and downconverting to SD for the standard definition channels.

I have a 27 inch panasonic tau and it goes about 100 lbs, I agree BD the thing is so damn awkward to carry. It has built in handles on the side that are totally useless because of where they are located. Thank god I'm hiring movers for our upcoming move.
