Twitter update

Jay Gruden scheduled to speak in 90 minutes, which about confirms what I’ve heard for a while, he’s the Redskins coach in 2019.

That quote came from NBC sports JP Finlay.

If he was being fired why would he come out to greet the press? To announce he’s been fired??

Come on, don’t dance around it man. We all know he’s staying if he’s giving a post season conference . Rolls eyes

I am more frustrated that Gruden is staying then Allen. But just as frustrating is all the fan talk like something is going to change in the FO structure. This structure (or something similar with different names).

I basically agree with MTK that this is the Skins, but I don't agree with the 7-9/9-7 range. A good coach that can recognize in game adjustments, and not get stuck holding on to personnel/coaches/schemes instead of adjusting to the talent on the field. Injuries should not have given Gruden a pass, when he got the pass last year for them. Other than AS/CM breaks, most of the injuries were by players with some history (even Scherff), and in a lot of cases - even Guice's - an effective replacement was put in place. Further the defense didn't suffer major personnel injuries, and it was Gruden's DC who watched the implosion of a top run defending line to a porous defense carved up by every type of offense.

I don’t think anyone is pleased with Gruden - he’s just likely our best realistic option. There are a ton of head coaching vacancies and ours has got to be at, or near the bottom, of most candidates lists.... and it’s an extremely weak market for coaches. There is no one out there and available whom would constitute a clear upgrade over Gruden.

Additionally we’re essentially going to operating under kind of a “salary cap penalty” next year due to Alex’s contract. It is highly unlikely we will have a good record - no matter whose coaching. So we’re better off sticking with Jay, and letting the new GM evaluate him over the next year. If we make a head coaching change, next year will he the year to do it.

I also think Norman returns next year at $14m/year. Too many holes to fill and not enough $$$, we’ll see.

Damn, right! That should teach Norman a lesson: Screw around with DWTS and ballet and we'll punish you by keeping you on our roster.

Your post is rational, reasonable, and absolutely a non-starter for the Skins because:
1) we aren't going to have a new GM - maybe a few position name changes but even that's not likely
2) next year our qb play will be subpar and the AS salary cap will pop up as the new excuse for keeping Gruden
3) the injury excuse will still be in play for JG as well since the team will not stop keeping injured talent way past the point they should have been let go
4) it's the Redskins and DS has gone from hyper quick to fire in the early years to holding on too long now.

Just Imagine if we had got rid of Bruce and jay last year and promoted Kyle Smith and Sean Mcvay.

As Skins fans we will watch McVay have an amazing career like Browns fans have with Bill Bellechek. All while we’re stuck with the garbage we have. 30 years and counting...

quoting myself as Gruden proves point 3:

@john_keim

Jay Gruden on TE Jordan Reed and his future “tight ends who can win against man and zone are hard to find.” Translation: not in a rush to move on from him.
