We don't need an offensive minded head coach to develop Haskins. It really doesn't matter if the HC has an offensive or defensive background. In either case, Haskins development would primarily fall to the offensive coordinator, QB coach, and a good dose of Alex Smith.

Tell that to Joe Montana and Steve Young who were developed by Bill Walsh and are both in the Hall of Fame.

So... throughout the entire 100 year history of the NFL, you cite two examples of successful QBs who were coached by an offensively minded coach. How, exactly, does this prove that a QB can only succeed if the head coach is offensively minded?

I'm really more worried about finding a coach that can win a title by working in cohesion with the front office to build a team worthy.

The good coaches in this league adapt to the players they have, they get rid of players playing for selfish reasons (i.e. money or fame) and they bring in guys devoted to team goals. Teams that win titles do so when players start putting team success ahead of personal success.

The right coach will be able to bring in the right staff that will develop Haskins en route to developing an entire team that can compete for a title.

I think Steve Young would tell you that a huge part of his success was because of Mike Holmgren. Young did not become a full time starter until after Walsh had left.

Yeah but if you look around the league now a days, the young good QBs all have offensive minded HCs.

First, why is Jared Goff on this list? He's been awful this year.

Second, the two best young QBs in this league, along with the greatest QB of all time, have defensively minded head coaches.

Russell Wilson
Lamar Jackson
Tom Brady

What is the point? That it does not matter if the head coach is offensive or defensively minded. The head coach is overseeing the entire team: coaching staff and players. He is not spending time developing a QB. He has a coaching staff to do that.

What is important about a head coach is not whether his background is offense or defense. Its that he's smart, a good leader, and assembles a staff that can develop players at all positions on the roster - including QB.

Goff is about the same as Dak to be honest.

Also Lamar Jackson is not a great QB , he's a great athlete that by this time next year I'll be surprised if he's tearing up the league like he is now.

I'd like Rivera as our D coordinator, if we could land him. As far as our head coach, I'd prefer a defensive minded coach. Honestly, I don't think it's going to matter too much if Bruce is still around next year.
