33 states and Washington D.C. have confirmed cases, two more today, and the death toll rising to 21 victims in the United States.

As the coronavirus gained a foothold in the United States, thousands of employees from Seattle to Silicon Valley were told to work from home. Public school districts in several states have shut down, universities are moving classes to online only, and even churches are limiting services or prayer meetings. A global health conference in Orlando, Florida, planned for Monday, which President Donald Trump was supposed to address, will no longer happen.

Off the California coast, another cruise ship with infected passengers is waiting for a place to dock. The State Department on Sunday advised Americans, especially those with underlying health conditions, not to travel on cruise ships.

As the coronavirus spread to two-thirds of the states, Americans began to grasp the magnitude of the threat facing them. The weekend’s case tally ballooned, veering toward nearly 600 cases and close to 20 deaths.

The head of the Port Authority — who has been visiting local airports — has the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday, as the state’s infection toll rose by 37, to 142 patients.

Cuomo said he himself “could have been in contact” with infected PA executive director Rick Cotton but hasn’t been tested because he’s an “improbable positive,” meaning he isn’t likely to have the virus.

The governor didn’t say how Cotton may have contracted the potentially deadly bug but noted that the executive director “has been at the airports, obviously, when many people were coming back with the virus.”

Cuomo specifically mentioned JFK Airport in Queens.
