But I do feel bad for the overachieving mid to late round draftee playing on the rookie contracts. If McLaurin balls out, he will be forced to play 3 more years on a peanuts contract. I guess the hope is that it gives the team and player motivation to get a LTD agreed to after year 3.

If the team doesnt extend/resign McLaurin after year 3 ... Id be pissed if I was him. (Assuming McL balls out).

Did you see this? Talks about how McLaurin and Holcomb are both on track for mandated CBA pay raises .... I don't know if that changes your perception ... but it seems like there was an attempt in the CBA to address this concern.
