At that time in history all of America was racist. The only way you could tell one racist general from another was by the color of his uniform coat.
The thought of making war on their families, friends and neighbors was morally repugnant for many career soldiers from southern states. Just as the Civil War had to happen then, the monuments to Confederate generals must now be removed. Time and tide make it so. |
