Ill still wear my hats with the skins logo. Still fly my logo flag out front.

Probably wont wear anything with "redskins" on it ...

A person can find the name redskins offensive but find the logo acceptable. It is not an either/or much like a person can be a fan of the Cleveland Indians not find that offensive but the caricature of Chief Wahoo obviously is.

Will I wear the old logo'd gear? Yes. Without any hesitation.

Will I sport the new stuff? Well ... that depends on what the wizard Danny Snyder decides to name the team, and what the stuff looks like.

Will I root for the team still? Yeah ... I am really looking forward to seeing how this defense plays with actual COACHING. It could be truly special.

The WP poll said only 10% of NA were offended by the name, the UC Berkeley study said it's closer to 50%. Even if you split the difference that's 30%. To me that's enough to say a change is justified.

It was never a winning battle for the Skins, we all knew the day was coming eventually

The Washington Post study roughly matched the findings of earlier surveys done by Sports Illustrated and the Annenberg Foundation. The two periodicals have stellar reputations as does the latter non-profit.

The UC Berkeley study used different methodology. Not surprising considered it likely had an agenda. The authors themselves admitted theirs was not a truly national sample while the others were. For details, you can glance at a not entirely sympathetic (to the Skins' name) article on today's National Review entitled Hail (and Farewell) to the Redskins.

In any case, the 30% variance is dubious and does not even total one-third. But history shows that small, energized groups often win. It's all moot now.

UC Berkeley is known for having an agenda.

Step onto the campus with a different viewpoint and you get assaulted.

Sure, but it is an excellent academic institution. Any study, survey, or poll they do is going garner some interest.

The problem with polls is that NOBODY actually reads them let alone scrutinizes them. But we all love to quote them, especially if it fits our pov.

Most polls are created to achieve predetermined results.

When you look at the metrics, it's never balanced. The last Presidential election really exposed that.

It was years ago, but the three earlier polls used standard methodology.

I am unable to scrutinize the UCB one as I would have to shell out money and since it is game over, there is no point.

But, examining the comments of someone who did, one finds this:

Startlingly, for a poll about a football team, only 31 percent of the respondents were “Cisgender men,” the other 69 percent being “Cisgender women; transgender, nonbinary, and genderqueer people;” the Berkeley survey authors found that the latter were significantly more opposed to the team name. The Post sample, by contrast, was 49 percent male. It also appears that the Berkeley survey’s respondents skewed younger (typical for an online survey), with 47 percent under the age of 35; the Post sample had a higher share of respondents age 50 or older (39 percent) than the Berkeley survey’s 33 percent who were aged 45 or older. Again, the younger respondents were much more opposed.

Not what I would call objective, but it's all moot now.

Re: Will You Still Wear Your Skins Gear After?

^^ detour this straight forward thread about wearing Skins gear .... into something about Ben Shapiro and college students assaulting people.

Simply a response to the previous comment about bias in the polls/studies.

I'm honestly sick of talking politics too...but it was forced upon us and took over our sport, which used to be an ESCAPE from politics.

I'll try not to get sucked back in so much, at least in the Locker Room.

I just want to see the players on the field, preferably running, not kneeling, and sing HAIL TO THE REDSKINS again.

We're all here because we love this team, whatever it's called...so there's no reason to turn on each other.
