I like Washington Football Team but it is weird to use in conversation. "Washington" is too generic.
I'm going to watch the Washington game is not specific enough. That can mean any number of things. I'm going to watch The Football Team game sounds like you're trolling people. And Washington Football Team is just too long to say in conversation. Now, is that enough reason to not keep it? I don't know. Depends on what the final choice is imo. I like Washington Wolves. We can still use the W we all seem to like and it's not trying too hard to basically keep the same name. And it comes off the tongue easily.
