Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
100% correct. WFT needs to keep doing whatever is needed to get a big time QB. Whether that's via trade or draft, keep trying no matter what the cost until there's success. Once they get the QB the other pieces can easily/quickly be put in place.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I think the pieces are there, we just don't have the QB to take advantage of those pieces, and we need them to be healthy too (Logan, Samuel)

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
In the second half, Washington needed full-tilt Heinicke as the defense faltered against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But the offense couldn’t manage much against one of the league’s worst defenses; none of its four full drives lasted longer than seven plays or 32 yards. The unit’s woes weren’t on Heinicke alone — it’s without key players, and there is blame to go around — but his play stood out. He missed open throws, couldn’t find running lanes and didn’t push the ball downfield, throwing 13 of 15 passes under 10 yards in the air.
On Sunday, Rivera said, Heinicke was uneven. One of his biggest problems was an inability to hit passes deeper than 10 yards. Heinicke doesn’t need to throw long to win — his 8.2 air yards per attempt are league average — but he finished 2 for 11 on attempts longer than 10 air yards, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. The struggles became glaring against a reeling Chiefs defense that didn’t generate consistent pressure. Washington had a plan to beat Kansas City deep. Heinicke said he could hold the safety in the middle of the field with a pump fake and then target outside, but each time he did, something went wrong. Once, wide receiver Dyami Brown couldn’t reel in a tough catch near the goal line; another time, Heinicke overthrew wideout Terry McLaurin. The misses and check-downs led to an average of 1.7 air yards per completion, the shortest distance for any quarterback in a game this season. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...-short-passes/ Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen · Oct 18 Terry McLaurin on not being able to link up with Taylor Heinicke on the explosive plays #WashingtonFootball needed yesterday: "We were beating the cloud coverage, we were getting the one-on-one opportunities, we just didn't connect." |

Which translates to: Heinicke just couldn't get me the ball.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Terry is a #1 WR but he's not a guy that can really dominate without a good passer. There are only a few guy that can do that.. DHOP , Julio (of 3 years ago) AB in his prime Etc.
Terry is like a Marvin Harrison, he could be LETHAL with a great QB. Sadly for him, 3 years in the league and he has had JAGs.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I can't wait for the day when we are not discussing TH as our starter. Forget Watson cause he ain't coming here. No elite free agent QB is coming here.
We have to draft the franchise guy. That is the only way we are going to get one. My issue is do we have the right staff to develop that guy? Will he have to deal w/ multiple staffs if Ron gets blown out this time next year? Even if we draft a guy can he be successful here? It's hard enough getting one, hitting on one. Then that guy will have to deal w/ all the bullshit here - a lot for a guy in his early 20's to overcome. |

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Yeah, I was definitely a Turner basher early on, but I am beginning to realize that it is more about the QB situation and the injuries than him.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Thats the big question. Why is Turner forcing a square into a circle hole. Seems like (and someone posted on here before) that Turner asks his QBs to progress from deep to short. Unless its a designed 7 yard slant or screen.
Last year Turner did a decent job of tailoring the playbook to his QB. Logan Paulsen said he didnt really see us using a full playbook until Alex Smith came back but then Alex would turn down the down field passes. Heinike had 0 runs last week. I think he is a limited QB and Turner has a difficult task but he has to figure this out. Heinike has had 1st team reps for 5 plus weeks now .. Turner has had 5 plus weeks to learn and adapt to Heinike. 2nd half against the Chiefs felt like we gave up and just did screens, dinks and dunks like Turner was almost "pouting" with his play calls, throwing in the towel. |

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Good question. He is running my favorite offense but with the completely wrong QB for it. Heinicke needs more of a college like offense.
Please just draft a good QB in 2022.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Ryan Fitzpatrick was supposed to be the guy to run Turner's offense, which is a version of the "Air Coryell" offense. That lasted less than a half.
Turner hasn't been able to run his offense since he's been here. He hasn't had the personnel to do it. It has been all about trying to adapt his offense to the limitations of the players and personnel. It's probably been tough for him - with five different QBs in 23 games so far, and injuries across the WR/TE/RB positions. |
