I’m disappointed in the GM decision, because he’s older, just ANOTHER guy from Carolina and his record hasn’t been that great.

To me the big decision if how they tend to and pay KYLE SMITH. Increase Kyle’s salary and job title and draft/FA involvement. Perhaps Deputy GM?
Keep him here until he can impress Rivera with his GM skills and perhaps he can move up.

I believe Ron is building a long term structure, you know, the professional organization idea that we all have pined for the past 20 years. People are important, but moreso it is critical that everyone in the building is on the same page. I imagine with Hurney especially RR they know how each other works and thinks so should be more growth and less friction.

None of us know what the front office structure is going to look like with responsibilities/roles/etc. But let’s be honest, Marty Hurney ain’t calling the shots and pulling the trigger on talent acquisition. That’s Ron. Hurney is going to be the leg work guy and work with Mayhew to share the load. I was pessimistic about the Hurney hire at first glance, but the more I think about it, and now with the hiring of Mayhew, I’m not worried about it at all. Hurney won’t be the de facto talent decision maker. As long as Ron calls the shots, I could care less who he entrusts to do the grunt work for him. If he’s good enough for Ron, he should be good enough for all of us know nothing armchair football gurus until proven otherwise.

Plus I think we are just so conditioned as fans to expect failure as a fan base, we can’t even process something being conducted within the franchise in a responsible and positive way.
