Dexter Coakley's leg break

Anyone else see this? Near the end of the 1st quarter his leg got rolled on as he was hit on the other side and his leg just snapped. The announcers mentioned it was Theisman-style. Footage of this would be killer. He was a cowboy, and now hes on IR.

I don't know if it is a compound fracture (like Joey T's), but I saw it happen and it was damn ugly.

Re: Dexter Coakley's leg break

this is most definatly a HUGE threat to being career ending. I felt bad, don't ever want to see anyone get hurt like that. It was just an accident but I hope he recovers some how

Re: Dexter Coakley's leg break

Terrible sight and looked like horrible injury. Perhaps career ending. Even though he was a Cowboy I always thought he played hard and gave his all. He was short for a LB and seemed to make plays at all costs. I feel bad for the guy and wish him a speedy recovery. It was a brutal looking leg break and I'm glad the networks only showed it twice. Goodluck to Dexter having a quick healing period and returning back to work asap. Sad thing is we can see Theismann's break over and over on the internet and it's been 20 years since that happened...

Re: Dexter Coakley's leg break

I feel like if an injury is career threatening, I feel bad for the player, no matter what team he's on.

If he's on any team but the Cowboys, Giants, or Eagles, then I feel sorry for non-career threatening injuries too.

But if we're talking about an NFC East division rival and he's in a lot of pain, as long as it's not career threatening, I'm enjoying myself seeing him hurt. Maybe that makes me mean, but it's hard to justify getting enjoyment out of a big Sean Taylor hit and at the same time turning around and feeling sorry for the guy who got hit.

In Coakley's case, I feel real sorry for him, because first I have no problem with the Rams, and secondly it seems to be career threatening. I never like to see someone's career and what they love to do for a living go up in smoke.

But I'd love to see a Julius Jones concussion or a Jeremy Shockey sprained knee.

Re: Dexter Coakley's leg break

It is never enjoyable to watch an injury to me. I might take solace in the fact that an Eagle/Cowboy/Giant was mildly hurt in a way that might be of benefit but when it gets even moderately serious the competitive part of me doesn't cheap advantages and the compassionate part doesn't want to see a guy get hurt in general. I do fondly remember Arrington ending Aikman's career but lets be honest, the guy had won 3 SBs and was only one hit away from being done for a couple seasons. It was gonna happen at some point and we got to see our Man Lavar do it.
Watching Coakley break his entire leg like that sucked but it is part of the game. I feel bad for the guy even though he used to be a Cowturd.

I didn't get to see it, but I heard Sonny and Sam Huff kinda cringe when it happened. The worst thing is, not only did he break his leg, but he also dislocated his ankle and had to have surgery on it.

I kind of cringed myself when they showed the replay. His leg was rolled up on one way and another blocker was hitting him the other way and something had to give. The worst part was players started getting up as his leg flopped around. I did see Brunell go over and talk with him as the trainers where making their way to him.

Re: Dexter Coakley's leg break

My first thought was that he is going to retire after this season now. Sucks though. Also, I like ex-Cowboys, because they usually hate the Cowboys.
Active ex-Cowboys that aren't on our team. Not the retired ones, they suck.

Re: Dexter Coakley's leg break

I saw right after it happened somebody jump up & immediately thought of L.T. jumping up & signaling for the trainers to come over after he hit Joey T. On the first replay Sonny cringed & I'm glad they didnt continue to show replays. No matter who the guy plays or has played for, I never enjoy seeing an injury like this. I wish him the best in his recovery.

Re: Dexter Coakley's leg break

when i saw it i thought his career might be over, but i thought it would be a torn acl. i think his career will be over simply because he is 32 or 33 and it is a serious injury. pretty sad
